Styles for Crowdsignal Poll

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi macmanx, thank you for the clarification- much appreciated.

    Its getting late here in the UK and given Ive been trying to get this technical stuff sorted since the other day, I will have a go tomorrow and get back to you 😃

  • Unknown's avatar

    It took several minutes for my latest style change to produce a visible change in the preview. However, my first attempt today produced an immediate change, within a couple of seconds.

    For those who might have missed it, my instructions for browsing the 20 optional Crowdsignal poll styles (or backgrounds), and selecting and saving one of them, are in the last post on the previous page here.

  • Thanks @musicdoc1.

    @sharonharvey2
    let us know if you need more help with this!

    Yes thanks @Musicdoc1 and yes @supernovia will do – please standby and I will have a go at that today….

    ok here are the screen shots of the console mentioned so I hope I have done it correctly….

    firstly let me know if you can see the image as for some reason I can see it in my media but when I take the image URL I get a paper image of some sort…

    ill try it as it does seem to work…..hope it all shows and it doesn’t look good ☹

  • Hi there,

    I did some testing on my test site as well and was able to replicate what you were finding, @musicdoc1. I edited an existing poll and tried to change the poll style, but it wouldn’t change. I came back to it 10 minutes later and then the change occurred.

    I did some research internally and discovered that the 20 poll styles that aren’t displaying were all deprecated last year. So, unless they are already active on a current poll, you can no longer activate them. That may be the source of all the errors you’re seeing, @sharonharvey2

    Obviously, this will cause confusion since the option still appears in the poll editor, and it appears, as both @musicdoc1 and I discovered, you can change from one deprecated poll style to another if you edit a poll that already had an old poll style activated.

    I am going to reach out to the Crowdsignal team about this and will provide any updates I find. Apologies for the confusion.

    I was going to say, what does all that mean in simplistic terms please….? And do I get my old polls back …?

  • That short version is that we’ve identified the bug you’ve reported and our developers are taking a look. :)

    To work around the issue for polls that have already been added, and new polls, edit the poll and choose one of the basic styles.

    @sharonharvey2,

    And do I get my old polls back …?

    Despite the deprecation that staff-doublebassd identified, yes, you should be able to get the style featuring an illustration of a woman on a laptop at a desk. I was able to switch to that one yesterday following the step I’ve provided on the previous page. However, you might have to be patient waiting for that style to appear. It might take a few minutes for the style to change, perhaps even up to 10 minutes, as indicated by staff-doublebassd.

    Correction: “following the steps

    So I just wait for the developers to correct it?

    I did try still the other night and still no success – so shall I continue to wait to see if the developers can resolve the problem or is it windows 10 that is the problem too do you think?

  • So I just wait for the developers to correct it?

    Waiting is one option. We aren’t able to provide an ETA on when it will be fixed up though. Because of that, I would suggest trying to use the work around that @musicdoc1 outlined previously.

  • Unknown's avatar

    No I understand you cant give a ETA, ill try and find @musicdoc1 ‘s post regarding that…

    @sharonharvey2,

    Here are the instructions again, with minor edits.

    Instructions for editing a Crowdsignal poll “style” (background) in the WP-Admin editor:

    1. Click the Add Poll button above the WYSIWYG toolbar.
    2. Hover over an existent poll.
    3. Click the Edit link. This brings one to the Edit Poll page.
    4. Browse style names (images not displayed) by clicking either of the double carets, left or right.
    5. Select a style and click the Save Poll button.

    You may keep a preview of the visible page open in another tab. I’ve been able to change the style in multiple tests following these instructions, but it frequently takes a while before the change goes into effect on the preview. In my tests, the style will either change immediately or (more often) take up to several minutes to change.

    Should have called it “Instructions for changing a Crowdsignal poll “style” background.” There are other editing options in the Edit Poll popup, but these instructions only deal with selecting from the 20 available styles.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Haha thats ok @musicdoc1, I’ve wrote it all down, just to let you know in case it makes a difference I am on a laptop and not desktop – it occurred to me the other day, that may need to be known in case it makes a difference like using windows 10 instead of 7 i was using previously…..

    <Click the Add Poll button above the WYSIWYG toolbar.
    Hover over an existent poll.
    Click the Edit link. This brings one to the Edit Poll page.
    Browse style names (images not displayed) by clicking either of the double carets, left or right.
    Select a style and click the Save Poll button.>

    @musicdoc1
    Ok, Ive done this but when you say browse the style names but images not displayed, how can I select one when I don’t know what style I am using? ☹ I am wanting the style to be seen?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Sharon,

    You may keep the visible post open in a separate tab, and update it by reloading the page each time you change the style in the editor. That’s how I’ve been doing it.

    I just did several more tests. In a couple of tests the style changed almost immediately on the visible page, but in the other tests it took about three minutes or more for the style on the page to change each time. That’s obviously a tremendously inconvenient way to see each of the 20 available styles, but you’ve said that you know which style you want. The name of the one you’ve described is “Working Female.” Have you tried choosing that option, and seeing if it changes on the post? If it doesn’t change immediately, try updating the post again a few minutes later.
