Styles for Crowdsignal Poll

<blockquote yeah I have done the updates
Which updates? >
No idea, the one the App Store told me about, as I cant do polls via the iPad either but its the laptop I do them on
-
I can see you’ve got the wp-admin pages already showing.
Not being able to access a retired style isn’t a bug — if anything they’ll consider it a bug that musicdoc1 could get to it.
If you like the image of the woman at her computer, though, would you be open to putting that next to your poll or something like that? @musicod1 if you’ll link us to the page (private or not) where you have that set up, we could mock up an alternative. And @sharonharvey2, is there a draft post with a poll in it right now, that shows in the preview? Could you tell us which one you’re working on?
-
to be clear, too: are you creating the poll on Crowdsignal then adding it here, or creating it with a poll block?
And can you link us to a previous poll that worked the way you wanted it?
-
One more thought from the thread with the developers: I can confirm that the old styles are not supposed to work at all.
But if you have access to that image (or even one you like better!) and want to use it as a background for your poll, you could add it as a cover image block, then add the poll block inside that. They passed along that tip :)

Right @Supernovia sorry, I cant do quotes I dont think, have tried but dont think it worked.
Ill try this way:

I do like the idea of using the background of the woman at the computer….how would that be achievable?
So why aren’t the old styles allowed any more, it was much easier – and not only that but so far, the other problem does still exists, ie I cant see the offered images….
Now @supernovia thats a very good question! I start using the poll block from classic editor but then I keep getting diverted to the new block editor where I dont get invited to see the images and its just the poll block I showed above? 🤷🏻♀️
Thanks Guys!

Hi Guys.
@MusicDoc1 and @Supernovia I have found this link on wordpress from someone else regarding the same problem as mine it seems.https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/poll-doesnt-show-up-under-windows-10/
Can you, or indeed anyone else give me your thoughts on this please?
Thanks 😊

@sharonharvey2, that thread is from 2016, and it’s already closed. We won’t be able to check it retroactively, so we won’t be able to advise on that.
-
staff-mckluskey yes I appreciate that, and I know its closed. My point was someone else had the same problem so wondered if it was infact windows 10.
I thought having seen the post you may have had a clearer idea of the current problem.

Right @supernovia sorry, I cant do quotes I dont think, have tried but dont think it worked.
To quote a section of text here in the forums, highlight the text and then click the “quote” tab in the menu bar above the window. It will look like this:

The older styles no longer comply to a few more modern web standards, so the plan is to fully remove them soon.
We strongly recommend investing time into switching to one of the newer modern styles, rather than finding workarounds to access the soon-to-be-removed old styles.

To all:
@supernovia said: “One more thought from the thread with the developers: I can confirm that the old styles are not supposed to work at all.” Also, a couple of staff members, at least, have referred to the method I’ve described for choosing and setting a poll style as a “workaround.” It isn’t a workaround. There’s no secret trick involved, unless one considers using the WP-Admin page editor arcane trickery. I’m able to change the style from among the 20 offered styles the essentially the same way I would have five or ten years ago.An article titled Poll styles updated at Crowdsignal.com, dated August 7th 2009, was apparently originally published at blog.polldaddy.com. The article announces six new styles and includes this image showing the 18 available styles at that time. The 20 available now are those 18 plus two additional styles.
I again changed the style several times in tests today without any difficulty, although, as I previously reported in this thread (as did staff-doublebassd in reply #3657750), sometimes there is a delay of indeterminate length before the style (i.e. background) switches after choosing another style and updating.
Since @sharonharvey2 is using the same browser that I am, Google Chrome, I see no reason why she shouldn’t be able to obtain the same results, and I still suspect that what’s preventing her from doing so is most likely browser privacy and/or security settings. It doesn’t necessarily have to be cookie settings — I suppose that the problem might lie in security settings, or what Chrome calls “site settings.” I frankly don’t know what my privacy and security settings are in Chrome, since I seldom use that browser. Probably the default.
Have you updated Chrome to the latest, or at least a recent, version?

Like this @Musicdoc1? Only difference it doesnt have the ‘blockquote’ at the end like in your screencap
ANyway, staff-blorbo if you are referring to the ones that I showed in my screencap somewhere in this post, like ‘working female’ etc, thats the problem they aren’t showing up for me….
Trouble is from what I have researched people still like the old ways, so why change to things people aren’t wanting?
At the moment I cannot continue with some work on my site as i want to use polls but considering I’m having continuous problems with not being able to see them hence this thread and accompanying posts to try and resolve the problem I’m stuck at the moment.

You’re getting there. The blockquote opening and closing tags don’t show in the block of text being quoted, so I used the code tab in the menu to create a code block that shows what the html code looks like, including the opening and closing blockquote tags. In that post I’ve got a quote block at the top and a code block at the bottom. They do look very similar though. : )

Hi all, sorry for the delay is replaying have been dealing with a medical bug and which I am now recovering from.
All I can tell you there is on Google Chrome where my profile pic is at the top right hand corner, it said ‘update’ so I clicked it. nothing has changed at all
I’m at a complete loss now, I’ve checked things what people have advised me too, but nothing changes. I use the poll on classic editor and get a completely different look to as I do on block editor though no pics still show
the only thing left to wonder is if it is windows 10 version, unfortunately our laptops only work on Windows 10 so I don’t know if Windows 7 would be different which is what I used prior?
I’ve tried everything else and of course it quite possibly doesn’t help I’m not technically minded so finding it hard as to where to go next.
SO I don’t know what the next move is going to be? One thing I do know is I am finding myself staying away from my site as I have a couple of polls I wish to do but obviously can’t which is then affecting my work.
-
I sympathize with you, but don’t know what else to suggest at this point. Unfortunately, I think staff might have missed my reply #3675625, in which I dispute the claim that what I’ve suggested is a workaround. The method I’m using to change the style is, I believe, essentially the same method I would have used 10 years ago.
Have you seen reply #3675625?

Have you seen reply #3675625?
The older styles no longer comply to modern web standards and they will be removed completely in the near future. We haven’t replied because there’s nothing else Staff can do here.
Again, @sharonharvey2, we encourage you to try a new style to find one that will work for you going forward.

Hi @ MusicDoc1
Thank you for that, no I dont either lol it is SO frustrating.
The only other thing I keep coming too is its windows 10 thats the problem.
You see aside of anything else, I cannot view the so called images which I find a problem if everyone else can.
helper-heroponriki
I appreciate that, but my problem is aside of not being able to view the images which I think are new, or is this what you mean by old images?
I dont know now as my brain is fuzzled after all of this (!)
But on classic view one ‘poll’ design appears and then on the block one – another different poll option appears…this one:
It was said by someone that you could put a background pic to a poll like the working female one – though the other words would be on it unfortunately- but how would it work to put it on the background as I cant see anywhere to add it only colours.
-
I recommend adding a cover block first, by typing
/cover
on a new line in the block editor. You can add your picture to that.
Then, add the poll inside that.
And to be clear, that is not a work around; that’s using the new editor as intended. And as a bonus you can customize the picture so it’s whatever you’d like. :)
