No comments are apperaing in m admin screen.

Incoming comments do not appear on admin screen for approval. I have checked my settings, and can’t see why I’m not seeing any comments at all.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

My setting should allow comments to be manually approved. I am not seeing any comments at all in my admin page.

  • Hi,

For your site at http://damnedfool.com/ , I’m not seeing that any comments have been left. What is the site/page that you’re expecting comments?

    Thanks!

It’s the home page with our first post “Starting Here & Now…” We received in email about 6 or 8 posts that said “Comment” and listed the person & his/her email. We haven’t been able to find any of these on the site either, but they were clearly posted as comments. We also tried posting a comment to that page from another email address, and nothing showed up.

  • I’m not sure what’s going on quite yet. I’m going to send you an e-mail to the address on your account on how to send us copies of those e-mails so I can use that as a reference for investigation.

    Thanks!

OK, I’ve forwarded the comments, including a test that I just did this morning, using a gmail address (valid) — the verification email I got from the blog came to my independenteye.org address, NOT to the gmail I put in the comment box. What’s up with that?

  • Thanks for forwarding it over. I see what’s happening now.

On your latest post, you added a Contact Form to the end of the post. Folks are responding to that form—rather than the comments “Leave a reply” box at the bottom of the page.

For Contact Form submissions, they’re meant as a way to contact you privately. They’re stored, in addition to via e-mail, for your reference in the Feedback->Feedback section of your site: https://eyeofcocreation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=feedback

Since, on the contact form, no specific e-mail address was set when it was created, submissions will go to the e-mail address on file for the blog, which is the one that you referenced.

For readers to leave you a comment, they’ll need to use the form that’s at the of every post automatically. Does that clear things up?

    Cheers!

“they’ll need to use the form that’s at the of every post automatically. Does that clear things up?” Actually, no, there’s a crucial word missing. At the (what) of every post? And how will we get rid of the deceptive box, if that’s what Conrad wants to do? — thanks — Elizabeth

OK, I get it, it’s the little “leave a comment” after “uncategorized,” right? I haven’t tested it yet, but I see that if I activate the text box under “Leave a Reply,” it opens more boxes for the commenter’s contact info.

  • Yikes. Sorry about my not-quick-enough typing. My fingers moved slower than my mind on that one. Yes, at the end of each post.

To get rid of the Contact Form, edit the post via https://eyeofcocreation.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1&action=edit . At the very bottom of the post, remove the “shortcodes” that follow the copyright — [contact-form][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/][contact-field label='Email' type='email' required='1'/][contact-field label='Website' type='url'/][contact-field label='Comment' type='textarea' required='1'/][/contact-form]

Remove that text, then click the blue Update button on the right column to save it. That’ll remove the extra form.

    Thanks!
