No comments space in hemingway?
-
Should I change to another free theme to acquire a comments section?
Thanks!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
The WordPress engineers are clearly on vacation……same problem here, same theme. I went to Settings – Discussion and checked, rechecked it the way I wanted, and alowed comments without moderation. The box reappeared for me but I haven’t tried it logged out.

@lisarem
This is not a CSS editing question. Go to
http://lisaremickwriter.com/2016/04/03/saturday-edition-whats-holding-you-back-from-your-writers-life-live-to-write-write-to-live/ and scroll to the very end of that post.Unless you use the P2 theme which is a Twitter-like theme, the front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display. You cannot change this.
In a new blog, one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.
Additional information
Comments on posts and pages are enabled by default on all WordPress blogs. However, you can enable and disable comments on WordPress.com blogs on this page Dashboard > Settings > Discussion
That is where you set up defaults for comments and other comment options http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

@ameliespp
Your username is linked to a site that’s not wearing that theme. More to the point is that te answer I already posted above for the blogger who started this thread stands for your site too. -
@timethief I have no idea what you’re talking about, can you be more clear? I had comments on my site since I began (years now) and suddenly the comment box vanished. My friends say they cannot post comments anymore, and when I visited one friend’s WP site it was the same problem. What’s going on?
-
Hi again,
Click your username here in this thread and experience clarity ameliespp
is linked to https://inthebarberry.wordpress.com/ wearing the Chateau theme. :) Regardless of theme, provided it’s not P2 which is the only exception, then what I posted above stands for every blog hosted by wordpress.com. -
@timethief You don’t understand. What I’m asking is why did my comment box disappear! And is it working now? I don’t know what P2 is and I haven’t the foggiest idea what you said above. It’s Greek to me.
-
@ameliespp if I go to your blog and click on the heading “How to save your Indie Bookstore” 5 comments show up below the post and at the bottom is the comment box if I too wanted to comment.
-
@themagicrobot Thanks, however some of my readers say they can comment, other readers say they have not been able to. It looks like my newest post only has one comment and that’s unusual. I’m concerned the issue is getting worse.
Clearly there is a glitch and I’d like to know how to fix it or have a reply from the Happiness Engineers.
I also could not see a comment box on a friend’s blog and I’ve been commenting on her blog since 2007. So clearly it’s not just the theme I’m using.
-
Ps I asked my friend if she had trouble with the comment box on her blog and she said most people could see the box however she’s also had issues since WP changed things around again (for instance she was not able to see her Reader). Every time WP changes their design things go REALLY screwy on my page.
-
@ameliespp
There is nothing screwy about your site at http://inthebarberry.wordpress.com/Please post the URL of the site wearing the Hemingway Rewtitten theme because the site linked to your username is wearing the Chateau theme.
-
@timethief My mistake, I used the Hemmingway theme at some point but you’re right, I’m back to the Chateau theme. In the barberry IS the blog that’s having the comment issue. Thanks :)
-
**As of this morning, some people said my comment box did not appear. This afternoon I messed around with Settings-Discussion, and removed the moderation required. I haven’t heard back from my readers yet if they now can or cannot comment.
My notifications are NOT working, if that helps as a clue.
-
Hi @lisarem – I see that you were able to leave a comment after you posted your question (http://lisaremickwriter.com/2016/04/02/learn-wordpress-and-yoast-kid/). Looks like you were able to figure it out!
Hi @ameliespp! If you scroll to the bottom of https://inthebarberry.wordpress.com/2016/03/21/thorns-and-herb-tea/ are you able to see the “LEAVE A REPLY” box (I’m able to see it)? If not, can you please let me know which browser you are using?
You can also visit your site in other browsers to see how it appears in each one.
Thanks!

@ameliespp
This is rather like a replay of the past for you. So here we go. When visitors complain they cannot leave comments or even see comment boxes we immediately think they probably have either browser related issues or connectivity issues. The reason for that is plain and simple. Over 90% of the time when such complaints present the issue is not a wordpress.COM issue.Staff, of course, cannot help anyone whose computing environment information they are unaware of. If you want to help your visitors who cannot comment then please email them what follows. And, if the do have wordpress.COM username accounts they need to log in and provide their reports back to Staff.
In order to help you Staff need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through the list that follows and report your details back here.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful please provide this specific info:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(c) Exactly what you experience including exactly what any error reports you receive state.
(d) Screenshots can be helpful. You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. @lisarem
This is your thread and I humbly apologize for going along with the thread hijacking. It’s my error because I did not tell ameliespp to please start her own thread by using the Add New Topic link above, and I ought to have done that.As you have posted only once to start the thread I’m concerned that you may not have received the help you created the thread for. Please let me know if your issue has been resolved or not.
-
@timethief, No. You’re telling me that three WordPress users, all in the same week, had the same exact issues. Just to clarify: one of us lives in Massachusetts, another in Northern California, the third in Australia. You’re a volunteer and you always put it on the blogger, even though the actual WordPress staff will later come in and tell me it’s a glitch on their end. I’ve been on WP for years now and never had this issue, nor have the other 2 people.
-
@timethief I started “my own thread” multiple times. All were ignored and vanished from the main page. If WP didn’t hide the forums and had a way to get tech support, their users would t be so frustrated. As it is 12 of us (yes, 12) who migrated here from Vox are now transferring to other platforms.
-
@ameliespp and @lisarem, I’ve checked both of your site and left test comments and I also checked and do not see any additional complaints on this issue. Can you let me know if you are still experiencing this issue?
