No confirmation email ever arrived

I’m using Gmail, so let’s skip over the whole discussion of how I configured my email account. It’s plug and play, with not much that I could configure, even if I wanted to. I could change the decorative background. That’s about it.

I’ve checked both the spam and trash folders after multiple requests. Nothing from WordPress ever arrived. I’ve sent test emails from other accounts. Those test emails showed up in under a second, so Gmail is working fine, today, as one would expect. It’s well known for being a highly reliable service.

Your system is failing to send that confirmation email, keeping me from being able to do much of anything. Please fix this. I’m sure your system isn’t picking on me, personally, so whatever is broken is probably affecting everybody else trying to create an account, today.

While you work on that, I’ll try another email address and see if that helps. But really, why wouldn’t WordPress want to accept Gmail addresses for registration purposes?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I tried another email address, as I said I would, and the system told me that the new address wasn’t accepted. Because reasons, I guess.

My patience is wearing thin at this point. I’m done jumping through hoops, just to make your signup procedure work. I’ll check back once to see if you folks have gotten your act together. If you have, great. If not, then I have things to do other than blog, and most of them haven’t proven to be this pointlessly exasperating.

Think about that one, for a second. I’m writing this in the riot damaged city of Chicago during the pandemic year of 2021, and you’ve still managed to be the most aggravating part of my day, so far. Please try to do better, going forward.

Just in case it gets “lost” for some reason.

    Hey there,

Sorry to see you’ve faced issues here. I can see that this account is verified – are you having issues with a different WordPress.com account?

If yes, what is the username for that account?

Also, where are you seeing that this account is not verified? Are there any messages showing this?

    Many thanks.

My account most certainly is not verified, a fact that I confirmed just now by going to the invite page for my blog

    https://wordpress.com/people/team/frontiermathematician.wordpress.com

clicking on the invite button and getting this error message

    “Please confirm your email address

To post and keep using WordPress.com you need to confirm your email address. Please click the link in the email we sent to (email removed)

Re-send your confirmation email or change the email address on your account.”

Not wanting to be spammed, I’ve removed the email address from that quote. Sorry to hear that the system is giving you incorrect information, but a day later, the only “confirmation email” I have received is from somebody claiming to be with Home Depot. Unless Automattic is now impersonating other companies, I don’t think it’s from you.

Going to Gravatar (https://en.gravatar.com/), clicking on the “sign in” button and choosing the option to log in using my WordPress account, I was greeted with this message.

“We sent you a confirmation email!

We sent an activation email to (email deleted).

In this email you will find a link that, when clicked, will bring you back to a confirmation page. Once you’ve confirmed your email, you can start using Gravatar.

If you’re having trouble with receiving the link, you can request another activation email at any time by clicking here.

You can also review our FAQs or search our support documents.

PLEASE check your junk/spam folder as it is very common to have email delivery problems because of automated filters.”

As I’ve said already, I had checked both the spam and the trash folders. Just now, I checked them again. Nothing from WordPress, Gravatar or Automattic.

The username for my account is just what you’d think it would be, because I have been able to use it to post these messages: frontiermathematician. I’ll refrain from trying to log into any more Automattic services until this problem gets worked out.

You’re not going to try to gaslight me into believing that there is no problem just to avoid doing some work, are you, aleone89? I’ve seen other companies do that, before, and it’s always kind of disappointing.

    Hi there,

There is a glitch in our system that prevented you from receiving the activation e-mail from us. We apologize for the inconvenience. However, I have fixed the issue on our end, so you should be ready to go with the verification. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

Thanks. That took care of everything.

Hope you’re able to get that glitch taken care of, quickly. Hand verifying accounts must be a terrible nuisance for you.
