No limit on image width

Simply put, I don’t want my posted images to be cut if they exceed the width of the content area on my blog. How do I customize my page so that I can insert an image that is wide (say about 300×2000 px) and the reader can scroll it from left to right?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Learn CSS and buy the CSS upgrade.

A little secret for you though: Web surfers hate to scroll horizontally. In one survey I saw, it was in number 5 of 20.

We know from user testing that users hate horizontal scrolling and always comment negatively when they encounter it. Customer satisfaction is surely reason enough to avoid horizontal scrolling. There are two other reasons as well:

    * On the Web, users expect vertical scrolling. As with all standard design elements, it’s better to meet user expectations than to deviate.

    * When pages feature both vertical and horizontal scrolling, users have to move their viewport in two dimensions, which makes it hard to cover the entire space. For people with poor spatial visualization skills, it’s especially challenging to plan movements along two axes across an invisible plane. (Typically, users score lower than designers on spatial reasoning and visualization tests.) In contrast, one-dimensional scrolling is a simple way to move across content without advance planning: you just keep moving down.

Rethink intentionally causing horizontal scrolling. You will deter many visitors to your web site because it can be annoying. People have become more immune to vertical scrolling, and can handle it for vastly longer periods then horizontal scrolling. Really ask yourself if it is necessary in your creative expression to use horizontal scrolling.

Yes, that much I figured. And although I’ve already learnt some I wasn’t sure on what rule that was limiting the width. Might buy the CSS upgrade and just try my way through the code.

Thanks for the tips though. I wanted to use horisontal scroll because I wasn’t to pleased with the way multiple images where presented on the page. But again, that can be managed with CSS.

Most people don’t have screens that wide. Mine is only 1024 pixels wide. I know many others that still have 800 pixels wide. You will lose traffic because many people might still be on dial-up and will leave the page if it takes them too long to load your page. I have high speed and sometimes have trouble accessing pages that have large images and sometimes my browser shuts down on its own. And limit the number of posts per page if you’ll be posting so many pictures. I usually see pages with so many pictures and they have a month’s worth of posts on the main page.
