No longer able to add FB or Pinterest share icons.

    Reference this blog: https://buttoni.wordpress.com/

I used to be able to do this successfully. Additional info: I deactivated my FB and Pinterest accounts not long ago. When they were reactivated, a week or so later, my WordPress blog will no longer display them. On my sharing/admin screens, it shows them in my preview, I have clicked SAVE (many times now, actually) but for some strange reason, they WILL not display on my blog for visitors to click any longer. Several visitors have complained. Any thoughts on why this feature is no longer working for me as it once did?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey @buttoni,

It sounds to me that you may have to disconnect your fb & pinterest integration from your WordPress account. After successfully doing that I would clear your browsers cookie and cache just so that we’re safe and the error doesn’t pop up again.

After, clearing restart your browser and connect your fb & pinterest account to your wordpress account and activate the social share icons on your site. You should be able to see them show up again.

Here is the instructions to disconnect & reconnect Facebook:

Log into your WordPress.com site. Go to My Site → Sharing in your dashboard and click Disconnect next to the link to the Facebook profile or page you wish to disconnect.
Reload the page and confirm the link now says Connect, but don’t click that link yet.
Log into your Facebook account. Then go to your Facebook Account Settings →Apps page by clicking this App Settings link.
Remove the WordPress.com app by clicking the X in its row. (If there is no WordPress.com row, don’t worry, just skip this step). If you see a popup asking for confirmation, click the “Remove” button.
Do not check the box to delete content created by WordPress.com. This will remove all previously publicized posts and there is no way to recover them.
Log back into your WordPress.com site. Go to My Site → Sharing in your dashboard and follow these steps to reconnect.

Please visit the Publicize article that we have which may answer more additional questions.

As, always please let us know what else we can help you with!

    Best,
    Bill

Thanks, Bill. I’ll try your step-by-step this afternoon and post back how it goes.

Bill, that process does not seem to be working for me. I did as you said exactly, twice in fact, but the FB and Pinterest buttons are still not appearing on my blog. Any other thoughts?

I see those buttons and if you don’t you may have a browser issue.

Please act on all the tips here https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ first.

    • Make sure you are running an up to date browser version found at http://browsehappy.com
    • Make sure you have both JavaScript and third party cookies enabled https://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/#how-do-i-enable-third-party-cookies.
    • Disable any adblocker browser add-ons and all browser extensions and adons.
    • Try clearing your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
    • Try using another browser.

If you are not successful please post this specific info here:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

    re: retired themes

This is likely to be unrelated but you are running an very old retired theme. Themes are retired when they do not support all WordPress.com features.

You may want to browse these themes https://wordpress.com/themes/free?s=two+right+Right

    re: switching themes
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site, you to

    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php

*Replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your blog. wp-admin/themes.php

We have a preview function. No content is lost when switching themes on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. It does not matter if the site is private or public.

Thank you for your prompt reply TT. And as always, you have been very helpful. all things outlined in your reply were already in place BUT……….I do run the Firefox extension AdblockerPlus. Once I disabled it on my site, I was able to see those buttons again. I wonder if there is something new in AdblockerPlus that caused the change, because I have run that FX extension for ages and ages and there has never been this “impasse” before. Anyway, I’m glad the problem is fixed.

I have used other themes before, but just kind of liked this simple, uncluttered theme. I’ll keep using it until it just won’t work anymore. I have tried a few newer ones the last few years and keep coming back to this one. But I’ll be on the lookout for any quirks and change my theme if I see no other option.

As always, you have once again been most helpful. Have a nice week ahead. Peggy

I’m so glad we were able to sort this. Best wishes, Peggy. :)
