No longer able to follow new blogs.

When I try to follow a blog, initially says I am now following, but not actually adding blog to my followed sites. When I check back later I am not following the blog. Follow lots of blogs, never been a problem before.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Having looked at previous forums with a similar problem, I believe my site has somehow become marked as spam.

    My site: iainkellywriting.wordpress.com

Trying to follow various sites, as an example this one: https://rgmaewriter.wordpress.com/

I click Follow button, it turns green to say I’m following – when I refresh or log back in, I am no longer following.

I am using Google Chrome web browser version 61.0.3163.100 – but the same problem occurs across PC, laptop and smartphone, so I don’t think this is the issue.

  • Hi there,

On 8 September your account followed 16 sites in the course of three minutes. That type of rapid bulk-following is something our system associates with spammers and automated bots, and it caused your account to be blocked from following new sites. Real followers tend to spend some time visiting a site and reading some posts before they follow.

I’ve re-enabled follows for your account, but if you keep on bulk-following like this you will be blocked again. The follow feature is intended to help you keep track of sites you want to read, and I’m pretty sure you’re not reading the 2230 sites you’re currently following. If you want people to follow your site, consider reading and commenting on their content instead of randomly following as many people as you are able to.

Thanks for fixing the problem and the advice.

Not so fussed about your condescending tone – I’ll decide which sites I like to follow and how many there are, and what I like and comment on. You’ll have noticed, I’m sure, that I have around 1,300 followers, and when someone follows me, I follow them back – so that accounts for more than half the sites I follow. Perhaps, to ensure people’s ‘happiness’ you can just fix the problem without remarking on what you think I should be doing to get more followers.

    Thanks again.
