No longer available, so why not available to someone else?

Someone already has the blog address I want to use but they are somewhat banned. Shouldn’t I be able to take it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Btw this is for another blog I want to start. Not Emulsion Tickles…

One thing that doesn’t answer is “can a banned user transfer a blog”? The only thing you can do is contact them and ask them to transfer it to you.

Thank you very much! Now if only that person answers at some point if I can ever find him… Nice -.-‘

First of all I should say that I am just another bogger, not connected with WordPress. Having said that I think it it is entirely reasonable for WordPress not to allow blog URLs to be used except with the original author’s consent.

If they did allow people to register banend user’s URLs this would be unfair in many circumstances. Sometimes people misunderstand the rules, get banned but once it is explained to them continue to blog within the rules. Occasionally WordPress staff make mistakes (ghasp) and ban a blog that is perfectly within the rules, then reinstate it once they have discussed the matter with the owner.

If you really want a recognisable name then register a domain. This will help with SEO as well as allowing you to move your blog if you ever want to.

I completely understand that, this is why I would want to discuss with the previous owner before anything else. Since it is no longer available (due to something that went wrong with t&c) I can’t even find the blogger’s contact info to get in touch with him :/ This is what makes me an unhappy camper right now.

I would if I could. If the blog does get the attention I want it to get (mainly from me) I will not hesitate paying for a domain ;)

I don’t think that staff can pass a message on to the user for you, because it might fall outside what they agree to do with your email address. However I could be wrong, so I will flag this for staff attention.

Another thing that you could try if you want to see the old blog before banning is put cache: before the URL in a google search, like

    cache:http://emulsiontickles.wordpress.com/

This will display it if it was banned rather recently. You might find some contact information. If it has been out of action for even longer then if it is a “significant” blog it could be archived at http://www.archive.org/ , but that is less likely

  • Correct, we cannot contact other users on your behalf.

We also can’t recycle blog names. As previously mentioned, you are more than welcome to ask a user to contact us to transfer a blog to your account, but the other owner has to contact us independently before we could take action.
