NO longer download on xml. Go to find it to import, and all I have is an empty folder.

I am trying to export posts, a category at a time. I had no problem the first time. It downloaded and I was able to import flawlessly. The second time, however, is a totally different and frustrating story. It doesn’t automatically download. It tells me it’s going to email me. What? Whatever. Okay, so it emails me, I open the zip file and go to the blog that I am importing to.
I follow all the steps, fine the file to open to choose the xml, and it’s not there. I have done this three different times.
Can i just get a download?

    I am transferring from lilbitsscc.wordpress.com to theherbchick.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

You said the XML file isn’t there — when you open the zip file, is it empty? If so, can you tell me what category you tried to export that resulted in that empty zip file? I can take a closer look at that for you.

The category is “Smoothie Recipes”. I extract it to a folder, and when I go to choose it to import, it’s not there.

When you choose the file to import, are you clicking on the folder where you extracted the zip file (rather than the zip file itself)? If so, can you make a screenshot of what you see when you go to choose it to import? That will help me understand what’s going wrong.

You can upload screenshots to your WordPress.com site’s Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.

I have uploaded a pic. This is what I do:
    1. Go to Export in lilbitscc and chooses posts>Category>Smoothie Recipes
    2. Download (I have no clue why it’s a download still when it emails me. Quite frankly, it was easier when it did.)
    3. It says it will email me the .zip file.
    4. I get an email.
    5. I click on the link and tell it to use Extractor to unzip it to a folder.
    6. I then go to theherbchick and choose import
    7. I open the file you see in the picture that is supposed to have the .xml file, and nothing is there. I have done this three times in two days.
I am just trying to move all the recipes from lilbitscc to theherbchick. If it’s this hard, I may have to go over my head to get to my behind and copy and paste from one to the other.
Why did it stop being a straight download? It was so much easier that way.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the explanation. If you open that folder on your desktop, do you see the XML file there?

Our team launched this email feature because in the past some exports weren’t working if there were too many posts, comments, or other content in the export. If the export is large enough, WordPress.com will send you an email instead of trying to give you a file to download (because that export might not work).

I’m also sending you an email with more details about that export — you’re welcome to reply directly to that email or reply here for more help with this.
