No longer free?

Maybe I’m missing something big, but why the hell can’t I change my site’s CSS stylesheet manually anymore without paying a yearly fee???

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The CSS upgrade has not been free in all the time I’ve used WordPress.com. (2 1/2 years).

You can try it for free, but it won’t go live: you can edit and see what you are doing. That hasn’t changed either.

The site linked to your name is an un-used blog. Where is the blog you are talking about? Are you sure it was on WordPress.com?

    /nod to Tess

I’ve been here 3.5 years, and it has never been free. Always a paid upgrade.

And I will say the 15 dollars a year is a pretty good bargain.

Honestly? I feel like I’m in the twilight zone here…

I have a blog http://www.hikersagainsthunger.org for a fundraising thing I am doing… that is to say I HAD a blog, but it’s now utterly gone… go to that site, and you get the basic HELLO WORLD! post that you start off with.

I had changed around a bunch of stuff in the CSS on this site… text colors, background, column sizes… and it was up and working for about a month. Now it’s gone.

This domain is hosted on godaddy.com and nothing has changed there.

Today I started a new blog http://www.ulookcute.com… that’s up and running, and I see both hikersagainsthunger.org and ulookcute.com on my dashboard…

So if I could edit the CSS on my hikersagainsthunger blog, I assume 1 of 2 things must be true:

    1. I purchased the CSS customization option, or
    2. My hosting and wordpress accounts through godaddy let me edit the CSS, but since the other blog is hosted here I can’t make changes.

Still doesn’t explain why hikersagainsthunger was obliterated though…

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

to clarify, if I did purchase CSS customization, I somehow lost it, because it’s not available on any of my blogs.

I can see the site http://hikersagainsthunger.org/
Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, restart the browser.
At the bottom it says “powered by WordPress” which will link you to the WordPress.ORG forum.
    http://wordpress.org/support/
You can edit that site to your heart’s content because you are paying to host it.

    http://ulookcute.com/
appears to be a WordPress.COM blog using Wu Wew theme

    2. My hosting and wordpress accounts through godaddy let me edit the CSS, but since the other blog is hosted here I can’t make changes.

That’s correct, you have to pay for a CSS upgrade on wp.COM

Wp.COM and wp.ORG are 2 very separate and significantly different things.
Here are some of the differences:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  • Unknown's avatar

Because the link to your wp.COM site does not include “wordpress.com”
    http://ulookcute.com/
you must have paid for domain mapping as described here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes and plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and must still abide by our Terms of Service accordingly.

To me, that indicates your blog is still hosted at wp.com and subject to the same terms as any other wp.com blog. (I would infer that includes CSS options)
