But while I have your attention, can you let me know what the ‘Email me new comments’ option is supposed to do on the new comments box.
I thought it was meant to only email you new comments that are left on the post you left the comments on. However, it seems that if you choose that option, you get emailed comments that are left on any of the posts of that blogger, regardless of whether you left a comment on those posts or not. Surely, that can not be, right?

That is interesting. We have not heard that reported previously but we would like to take a closer look. Can you tell us a bit more about the issue you’ve had? What is an example of a site where you selected the ’email me new comments’ option (if you have a URL to the post itself, even better) so we can take a look, and compare against what we’re seeing on this end.

I think it was on this post that I slid open the ’email me new comments’ button.

However, it was definitely the blog where I then started getting email notifications of comments left on other posts on that blog where I’d not left a comment. I had to click the unsubscribe link in one of the emails to stop getting all the emails.
I’ll test it on another blog and see if it happens.

and slid the ‘Email me new comments’ button on. Now, I’m getting email notifications on all the posts comments are being left on regardless of whether I left comments on those posts or not. For example, I did not comment on the following post –
World of mine Wednesday’s Ws
but I’m getting email notifications of comments being left on that post.
I’m sure that’s not what it’s supposed to do. is it?

You know, we do have a semi-obscure Reader setting to toggle comments for the entire blog.
But I remember the old comment form allowed folks to subscribe to comments _for that post_ without having to get every comment across the site.
I’ve confirmed that the toggle there does indeed subscribe to comments for the whole site. And for a tiny site with a few comments, that might be okay. For a site like yours, it’s a whole lot for the average reader.
I’m getting this feedback to our developers. Thanks for your patience on this.
And thanks for your patience re: you not getting comments, even though you did toggle that box. I’m waiting for some developer help on that, too, and will let you know what we find.

@supernovia I wanted to inform you that I do get email notifications when responding to comments on my blog post,s but only if the comment I’m responding to has been left by ‘anonymous.’
Here’s a screenshot of one I got today.

Thanks for sharing that bit of info! I’ve passed it on to our developers to consider in their investigation.
Also this seems like as good a time as any to mention that Totoro had a very lovely time last we were in Wales. Did not make it as far as Swansea, but with luck we’ll get a chance to correct that oversight in the future!

@hughsviewsandnews I saw your other thread and wanted you to know I didn’t forget about this. Are you still having trouble getting email notifications of new comments, and is it just for this blog?
If you wouldn’t mind making a post on your test blog that we can comment on, we’ll do that and see how the notifications work there.

Thanks @hughsviewsandnews. So it’s something specific to that site, but also specific to your account: I tried subscribing to comments on hughsviewsandnews and got lots of those email notifications there.
Would you mind if I try some tinkering from my side? (unsubscribing you from your own site, clearing any server cache I can, then resubscribing?)

I’m afraid I’m still not getting email notifications of new comments left on my blog posts at hughsviewsandnews.com. I got your comment but only knew it was there from looking in the notification centre.

Thanks for confirming @hughsviewsandnews and apologies for the frustration. We’re having our developers take a closer look and will update you as soon as we know more. For now I’m glad that you are able to see comments in the notifications center, which is not an idea solution but does ensure that you get at least some notice of new activity.
