No longer have option to add featured image to blog posts :(
-
Hello. I have been blogging with WordPress for over two years. I have a free plan and am using the SAPOR theme. The SAPOR theme is what I chose when I first made my WordPress account and I have never changed themes.
Up until today, when drafting a new blog post, I have always been able to add featured image to my post. There is a long vertical menu on the right hand side of the screen with various dropdown options.
Today the feature image option is gone :( I am drafting a new blog post and the add a featured image option is completely gone.
I have a few post drafts and it’s exactly the same, no option to add a featured image :(
Out of curiosity, I went into a previously published post that has a featured image (my most recent published post was on March 24, 2024) and the option to add (or even remove/change) a feature image has vanished from there too.
I understand I have a free account but it’s quite disappointing that the featured image option has vanished when drafting (eventually to publish) blog posts.
(As a related tangent, I checked my site, went through the first couple of pages, and all the featured images for each published post are thankfully there.)
But what I really, really want to be able to do is add featured images to each of my blog posts that are currently in draft status.
Has WordPress changed something with the SAPOR theme and removed the feature image option?? I’ve cleared cookies, cache, etc… with my browser, re-opened, and it’s still the same. Doesn’t matter what browser I use.
Any help or info about the status of adding a feature image to blog posts with the SAPOR theme would be much appreciated. I visited the SAPOR theme page and it does say it supports featured images.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I have just noticed the same, very strange. I have just changed as drafts until I can post with a featured image as previously.

Just adding extra info:
For the past two years, the option to add/set a featured image to a blog post has always been on the vertical menu on the right hand side of the screen. For the past two years, I have used the SAPOR theme. I have never changed themes.
I also clicked the three dots in the upper right hand corner, choose preferences, and saw that the feature image was toggled on for the document settings. The menu option has just completely vanished.
I have done all the things — clear cache, cookies, close browser, re-open, etc… Tried another browser. The option to add a feature image to my blog posts is still not there. I use FireFox as my browser. I tried Microsoft Edge (which I rarely ever use) but no change.

I switched my test site to Sapor and it looks like things are moving around. The Featured Image is under “Summary” in the Post Editor’s Post tab in the right sidebar.

If you don’t see Set featured image in your Editor’s sidebar, please post a screenshot in this forum thread. https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/

hey testjj,
THANK YOU!! I really appreciate you reading my post and using your test site to help solve this problem.
I rarely ever click the ‘summary’ unless I’m scheduling a post. I feel like an idiot that I didn’t think to just go there and take a peek to check. It was right in front of my face, just hidden, rather than being an obvious choice.
