No longer WYSIWYG & other issue

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been off wp for a few weeks but logged back in and the interface has become a mess. I’ve tried Chrome & FF and they both share the same problems:

    1) When I make a bulleted or ordered list, it moves those text blocks way to the left of the screens
    2) When I colorize a block, it doesn’t show as colorized
    3) When I colorize text, they don’t show as colored
    4) When I go to preview, it doesn’t open preview unless I click ‘in a new tab.’

When I do preview, everything looks like I want it to but it’s a pain in the butt to have to click preview (in a new tab) every time to make sure it’s supposed to be.

I’m not a newbie. I’ve been using WP for a very long time; this is frustrating as hell.

I have put a screen shot of what I’m talking about. You can see it at https://www.dropbox.com/s/js9c7j22dya1no5/WordpressErrors.jpg?dl=0

Also, if you’d like to see the finished version, it’s at https://eurekaparksandrec.wordpress.com/2020/05/11/help-essential-waste-services-humboldt/

As you can see, what comes out is great. Working on it is totally different.

  • Hi there!

I noticed you’re editing the post from WP-admin. Can you please confirm that the same happens when you work on your posts directly from My Site>Site>Posts?

That’s where I was when I was working on it. The screen shots I put up are from within that section.

  • Please try clearing your cache next:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Do it in both browsers, it can’t hurt anything. Let me know if that makes any difference.

I will try that; I’m not optimistic since it’s happening in both browsers, but as you said, “it can’t hurt.” Thank you.

I tried it on both. The only thing it fixed was I can now click on preview and it shows the preview. I do not need to tell it to load in a new window.

However, the issues with bulleted text, colored text, and colored blocks still continue. When viewed in preview, they look fine. When viewed in the edit window, they look like I posted earlier.

This time I also tried it in Safari. Same problems.

By the way, I went to one of my other blogs which does not use the “new block editor” and it works fine. How can i go back to that please?

  • We’ve started testing this using the same theme, Twenty Fifteen.

So we can try to reproduce this, could you share with us the following:

    1. Where the text for the bullet point text originates from. For example, are you copying it from a Word document and pasting it into a paragraph block in your post editing area?

    2. Could you break this process down into steps? From when you place the content into the block, and how. And when and how you colorize text elements. And how you bullet point them.

Thank you! Once we have a better understanding of your process and can reproduce the issues, we’ll have a better idea of what will need to happen next.

At first, I copied it from a word document and when pasted into WP, it created a series of different blocks, as it normally does. However, the word doc did not have bullet points; I wanted to add them in. When I converted a paragraph block into a bullet block, it shifted it to the far left as you see.

Since then however, I have made several “brand new” documents on all 3 browsers to test it out and it still does the same thing. Therefore it does not appear related.

I have created a silent video so you can see it in action. You can find it at https://www.screencast.com/t/gO2tqDwbE

That will show you exactly what I do.

Hope it helps. (Also, how do I revert to old version until this is fixed please?)

  • Hi there,

Thank you for that video it helped me reproduce those issues. I have already reported them to our developers and I’ll update you as soon as I hear back from them.

In the meantime, you can either select a different theme or switch to the old editor by clicking the three dots at the top right corner of the editor and selecting the “Switch to Classic Editor” option. Here is a screencast of the steps to follow: http://cld.wthms.co/tOOMQu
