No luck getting a custom theme to install

    Hello,
I’ve been at this all day now, trying to figure out why I do not have the Install Themes tab in my appearance/themes section in my dashboard and how to get my /wp-admin account to see my theme that I uploaded through and FTP into my godaddy hosting account. PLEASE HELP! I’ve re-intalled wordpress through GoDaddy hosting about 5 times now, I changed the nameservers to use with godaddy hosting, but then my site goes down and the login page is blank/white -so I change the name servers back to wordpress and my site comes back up with a generic themes, but there is still no Install Themes option. I made sure that the theme was installed in the wp-content/themes folder and that it was unzipped and not in two folders. I tried renaming it so that there weren’t any underscores or hyphens in the name of the theme folder… I just can’t get this to work. I really thing that it has something to do with the fact that I opened an account in wordpress.com and then paid the $12 to use my domain from godaddy, when I already had the option to download wordpress from godaddy hosting. I’ve spent an hour on the phone with the person I bought the theme from, I’ve talked with 3 different people from godaddy, I had my friend who specializes in wordpress look at it, and no one can figure it out. So, please help me out with this. I need my site working yesterday :(

    Hi there,

Custom themes can’t be used here at WordPress.com. They are a feature of WordPress sites that are hosted elsewhere, using the free WordPress.org software.

You might want to review this guide to be sure you’re using the right version of WordPress for you:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Feel free to drop us a line if we can be of any further assistance. :-)

I don’t think you read through the entire post. I understand wordpress.com doesn’t support themes, that’s why I installed it through godaddy hosting, but I really think that what I had originally set up in wordpress.com (and the $12 redirect fee that I paid to use my own domain) are conflicting with the wordpress download from godaddy. I think I need you to un-direct it so that my dashboard can communicate with the wordpress.org download from my godaddy hosting.

  • I have canceled and refunded your domain mapping as requested.

Please note that you’ll need to change your domain’s nameservers through your domain registrar to direct it to your hosting provider.
