No luck the first time … try, try again.

    I posted this query a day or so ago with no responses … I wonder if it’ll get someone’s attention today … I realize that the layout of Nishita has been standardized (I’m using a 1024 wide layout with a sidebar on the right). But, it has always seemed a shame that there are two fairly wide (and totally empty) gutters on either side of my content area. Is there a way, using CSS customization, to enlarge the content area of this theme (which I like otherwise)? Either the width of the entire thing or simply that of the area within which posts show (and ignoring the sidebar)? I tried finding this using the Firebug utility but wasn’t very sure what I was looking at. Thanks much for your time. And, just saying, I think all the flack that WordPress has been getting for the recent changes in the editor is unfair … people need to learn to adapt and to chill just a bit.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Sure, right now you have:

    .layout-photoblog .container { width: 1056px; } .layout-photoblog .index-wrapper { width: 806px; }

    Adjust these by the same amount to widen the content area (aka .index-wrapper). So if you want it to be 100x wider, you’d make the container 1156px and the index-wrapper 906px.

    Great … now, if you have time, remind me how/where I can see this line using something like Firebug or ‘Inspect element’ in Firefox. I like to know kinda what I’m doing before I enter your code into my CSS. Thanks abreujamil for your help this morning.

    Sorry to bother once again abreujamil … I took your advise and made the thing 100 px … and it looks great. Do you see the box with date, categories, and ‘leave a comment’? It seems not to have followed suit and is still with then old wide … how do I enlarge this box to be as wide as everything else? Thanks in advance. I promise not to bother again .. today, that is! D

    Sure! On most browsers you can simply right-click (or control-click on a Mac) on the element you want to view and select “Inspect Element”. This should bring up the html version of the page with that element highlighted.

    Re: the width of your posts, here is the css:

    .layout-photoblog.single .main, .layout-photoblog.attachment .main { width: 906px; }

    with 906px being equal to the .index-wrapper width from before.

    Happy coding!

    I’m driving you crazy … I know … but …

    I got this far …

    .photo-meta ul {
    width: 1156px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 6px 0px;

    But that doesn’t seem to have enlarged the length of the box to equal the other established boxes.

    Hello!
    If this is what you wanted:
    http://snag.gy/z0tb9.jpg

    I was able to get it with the following CSS

    .layout-photoblog .search-with-sidebar .photo-meta, .layout-photoblog .index-with-sidebar .photo-meta {
        width: 895px;

    Whow! To someone who isn’t very experienced with all of this pcosta88, it’s like magic when it works. Rather than cut-n-paste your suggested change, I followed your snag.gy link and then tried to find that section of my code using the ‘Inspect Element’ routine. It took some looking (tough when you don’t really know what you’re looking for) but I finally found the controller of the box size … which, of course, you had already pointed out. After I got the padding thing and box size adjusted … IT WORKS! I’m so impressed with YOU and with myself. Thanks much. I can’t tell you how worked up I get about such things and how relieved I am when they are solved. You’re made my day! I’ll relax until I find there’s something else I’d like to tweek on this sight. Thanks again, a million. D
