No Menu Appears

    Hi,

I have written a couple of dummy posts for the blog, but there is no way to find them from the home page. I would like the home page to display a menu of categories, or at the very least, the latest blog entries. I thought this would happen automatically, but it doesn’t. How can I get a menu added so that readers can find blog entries from the home page? I have tried both adding a widget and updating my menu settings, but I must be doing it wrong. Please help!

    I have a few ideas.

Looking at your site I’m guessing you have set your blog to have a static front page (your About page). If you want your posts to show, you will need to set a Posts page in Settings->Reading->Front page displays. This may require you to start a new page within your blog. If you want your blog to default to your posts, you should change the setting to “Your latest posts”. You can find some more information about that here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

If you want your posts to be pulled up based on categories, you can add the Categories widget to your sidebar.

    Good luck

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I think the problem was actually because the theme I chose (Galaxy) did not display a normal menu; the menu was accessible through a little box that I never noticed. I’ve chosen a different theme now (Twenty Thirteen), which displays a menu at the top. I want to keep the home page as static and have posts accessed through links.

So all would be well, except I I’ve got a new problem now. I added a new page called ‘About Paul Burns’. The copy and featured image,
as well displaying on the ‘About Paul Burns’ page, is also appearing on the home page, where it is not wanted. The correct copy for the home page appears underneath. All looks fine on the Dashboard, so I think this could be a bug. Any advice?

    Thanks,

Hmm, that’s odd. I’ve tried a few things with my test blog to try to recreate what you’re getting without luck.

Something that may be going on is if you were changing a lot of things within your pages to try to get them to do what you want, there may be a setting in there that is set incorrectly. In case this is true, I would try recreating my Home and About screens. Then I would change my Front Page in Settings->Reading to the new home page. With any luck after recreating the pages you won’t get that error.

In case you need help with the front page, here is the support doc. The video does a nice walk through http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
By adding the extra pages you may need to adjust your menu. In case you need it, the support doc (and video is here)

Sorry I couldn’t be of greater help

That’s done the trick. Thank you!
