No More Free Subdomain Options?

    I haven’t used WP (.com version) in a long time and I just logged in trying to create a new website. But the Step 2 keeps trying to force me to buy a domain. I just want the free subdomain version of wordpress.com. Is that no longer available? I don’t see any option to skip the domain purchasing step.

    Hi-

    Yes, you can still create a free subdomain. The domain name comes up in the list as yoursitename.wordpress.com.

    On a similar thread staff member @fstat suggested the following:

    When creating a new site please don’t type anything nor tick any of the checkboxes on the first step. Here’s a screenshot of the step I’m referring to:

    Have you tried starting over without checking any of the options and clearing your browser cache?

    It looks like in this case, if those options do not work we may need staff assistance.

    Nope.

    Tried clearing the cache. Tried un-checking all the boxes. Still the same result. From the thread you’ve given me, it seems like it was an account based bug or restriction.

    Thanks for your help, but I’m just going to create the blog on a different platform. I just want to get started and using the WP platform was a preference, not a must.

    Hi tomcha75 –

    Sorry about the trouble. That error looks like the free version might already be in use, since it was not suggested to you as an option. Did you try any other text in that search box? What happened if you type in the entire free site address?

    Please let me know which site address you wanted to use so I can try to register it to your account from my side of things.

    Thanks for the offer to help, lizkarkoski, but I already went ahead and created the blog elsewhere for this purpose.

    But if you can check and reset whatever restriction or bug there is, if there is such, I would appreciate it for future use.
