No more help for Premium theme, Headlines? Need help!

  • Unknown's avatar

What gives? Premium themes is supposed to receive “premium” support. However, when I go to the forum supposedly dedicated to my theme, Headlines, it appears to be obsolete–as in last post before mine was 3 months ago, and before that, a year ago. It’s been 24 hours and I still haven’t receive any response to two specific questions regarding this theme. This is NOT the case when I post a general question on this forum. I always get a quick response.

Will someone from WP support please contact me and tell me what’s happening with this theme from Woo? I contacted Woo directly about this–in the past they told me they could only help me through the WP premium theme forum. But this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore?

Please help…I have two important issues that I need help with on this specific theme.

    Thanks!

I have tagged this thread for Staff attention.
Be patient while wait, please. :)

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from them. No reply from Woo themes as of yet. They were very responsive when I was communicating with them about possibly purchasing one of their themes. Hmmm.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m happy to help you out! Sorry you’re not hearing back from Woo in their forum. Can you tell me the issue you’re having?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. A real response. Yay!

OK, I figured out one issue on my own (sort of) But what I can’t seem to fix is a twofold issue: (1) Add more images to the slider (have 4 now but it allegedly holds 8) and (2) how to rearrange the order of the posts instead of chronologically by post date.

I had some help with #2 a year ago but the guy did not explain it well enough…or something. Just couldn’t get it to work.

Thanks for any help you can give with this.

Correction – I meant to say that I had help with #1 (slider issues) …NOT #2. Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

Alright! #1 – the slider. It looks like you only have four posts with the tag ‘featured’, so only four posts will appear in the slider.

    https://jennikeast.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag&post_type=post&s=featured

If you add the tag ‘featured’ to more posts, they should then appear in the slider. Let me know if you’re seeing issues with that.

And #2 – rearranging post order. There are really only two options for post order, chronological or reverse chronological. Here’s some info about that:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/show-your-posts-in-chronological-order/

Can you tell me more about how you’d like your posts arranged? We may have another solution for you.

Thanks, Shawna. Yes I tried inserting the tag, “Featured” in a post to insert it; however, it didn’t work. Could it be that it was because this post already had other tags in it? If so, that doesn’t make sense to me–to have to delete out tags I want in place of just one tag? You are talking about putting the tag “Featured” where I would put all the other tags right?

    Please clarify the above.

RE: Order of posts? I thought that way back when I first created this blog/writing portfolio, that I was able to move posts around by changing the dates of the post. I’m pretty sure that I was able to do that. But I could be wrong on this. Ideally, I want to be able to move posts around on the Home page because I may want some writing samples to be more immediately visible than others. For example, I may have a client interested in my published travel writing pieces so knowing that he/she may be looking at them within a short time frame, I may choose to put more of those pieces on the Home page–as in more immediately visible in case they don’t want to take the trouble of looking for them under Travel category. (My hierarchy has become rather convoluted at this stage as so many of my samples overlap into different categories–that makes it harder for prospective clients to find them.)

So if you have a workaround for the chronological system that would be fabulous!

Thanks again for your help…still waiting for Woo. (Seems they’re good at “wooing” but rather lackluster once the ceremony is over…Ha!)

Sorry…it’s late and I didn’t edit myself. Made a lot of typos, etc. That one sentence especially was confusing–it should have read: “Yes I tried inserting the tag, “Featured” in a post that I wanted on the slider; however, it didn’t work.”

  • Unknown's avatar

Can you link me to the post you tried to add the tag to? Is it okay if I attempt to add the ‘featured’ tag to that post for you so I can see what’s happening?

And thanks for the clarification about the post order question. You can still move posts around by editing their publish date. You can do this in the ‘Change Status’ drop down in the editor:

You may also want to look at our Sticky Post feature, if you’re just looking to bring a few of your older posts to the top of your feed for a period of time. This setting can be found under “Advanced Settings” in the editor:

RE: Links to posts. There are two that I wanted to add to the slider (and more later…or switch them out as needed.) I also want to be sure that the featured image shows up on the slider–because the slider needs to have visual be prominent.

    They are: http://jennikeast.wordpress.com/2014/11/30/dean-braxton-afterlife-tv-interview-cast-pre-interviewed-and-co-wrote-tv-script/

RE: Featured posts. I did go ahead and move some posts up that way. And thanks for the tip about changing the publishing dates. That will work for other pages besides the home page, I assume.

Let me know if you were able to affix the posts to the slider and, if so, exactly how you did it. Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the links!

I just added the tag “Featured” to this post and it appeared in your slider:

    http://jennikeast.wordpress.com/2011/04/13/feb-10-fundraising-appeal-melissas-story/

Can you try that with the other post you linked to? Make sure you save your update after adding the tag.

That will work for other pages besides the home page, I assume.

Yep! This will work on your category pages as well.

Let me know if there’s anything else. :)

Hi Shawna, Yes it worked, thanks! However, once I added the TV show, it created a huge white space (and made all the images smaller) between the slider and the first post. That is not going to work. How can I fix this?

    Thanks. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for following up! I’m not exactly sure why that’s happening so I’ve asked our theme developers to take a look. I’ll let you know when I hear back.

  • Unknown's avatar

Shawna, I just heard back from Woo (they finally did get back to me a few days before that). The guy told me this: “This is happening because you have so many items in the slider. The slider was designed to visually accommodate max. 4 items.”

So technically while the slider can accommodate more posts, after 4 the visual shrinks and the white space btw first post gets huge.

And there you have it. Thanks for all your help…really appreciate it. :)
