No navigation menu showing on any page or blog

Using the author theme, the black navigation menu to the left suddenly isn’t there. It is in the menu list. How can I get it to display?

It looks like brucebookblog.wordpress.com is using the Book Lite Theme. Is this the site you’re working on?
