No. of recent comments is more than widget specified

Strange– my blog widget for recent comments on right side, shows well over 10 different comments. However on the back-end of the Recent Comments widget, I only specified the most recent 8 comments be shown from my blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I had the same issue on http://thistimethisspace.com and simply removed the widget temporarily. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Posted info here per info received from timethief. This is a two-fold problem regarding widgets. Recent Comments – There are no public comments available to display. All comments are for public view. Have been using gravatars with this widget. When the gravatars are removed the comments then display. In addition, the number of comments selected to appear are not working either. Many more appear than what has been selected to appear.

it looks like a problem with the avatars. Like jrinnc, i’ve stopped the avatars from displaying and the comments have since reappeared in the sidebar.
