No-one can follow my blog from the Reader

Friends have told me that they could not follow my blog from the Reader and they had to come onto my blog and follow from there. An error message kept popping up every time they tried from the Reader. So, I am assuming that no-one can follow my blog from the Reader? Is this a known problem please?

We need specifics to help you with this. As mention, you already have 14 followers, the most recent added yesterday, and they had no issue following your site.
So, if people are having an issue following your site, we need to know specifically who they are to find out specifically why they cannot follow your site.

I see what you’re saying, but if you read my first post I have already explained. They could only follow my blog by coming onto my blog itself, and not from any of the places in the reader, so yes, they did actually have an issue following from the reader. They contacted me and I said to try following from on my blog, and they did that and it worked. As such I wouldn’t know if anyone else was having the same issue by trying to follow my blog from the reader, if they are not a friend or relative.

I’m wondering if perhaps it’s something to do with the fact I had changed the blog address. It was an 8 year old blog, and I changed the URL. Then my friends/family followed it. Was it because of the change of URL and the reader hadn’t quite caught up with it?

It could be that. Do you know what error they received? The reader can be a bit tricky with changed URLs.

Also: given that they were not following your site before, I’m guessing you gave them a link where they could click follow?
If so, could you send that link?

The link was the full URL https://bydhaniaethol.wordpress.com and they typed that into search and clicked the follow button which brought up an error message that said something about there being a problem following the blog (no-one can remember exactly what it said). They all tried numerous times from the blog in the reader, and from the blog link with the follow button that came up after typing in the URL. So, they tried two different areas in the reader without success.

Yes, that’s correct. They weren’t using a link before that. The blog is new, I already explained I changed the URL but the previous blog (the one I changed) hadn’t been used in years.

Were they using https://wordpress.com/following/manage when trying to follow from the reader?
I was trying to understand if they were using that or a direct link to your blog ID in the reader.

They just typed in the URL in the search bar in Reader that’s all I know. For what it’s worth, someone I do not know has just followed my blog, so that must mean whatever problem there was, is no longer there, I would think.

I can follow your site without any errors by searching for it in the Reader as you described above, and also directly from the feed at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/110310343, so everything appears to be working as it should.
If any of your friends still get an error there, ask them to clear their browser cache, or log in using an incognito session to see if that makes a difference. It could be that something in their browser is preventing a network request from getting through to our servers, leading to the error.

As I already said, someone I don’t know had now followed my blog, so I assumed it to be fixed, and also this morning there is another follower. It’s strange that followers are appearing now though, and weren’t previously. I do think there was some kind of error preventing anyone following my blog from the reader. Thank you all.
