no one is commenting
-
I am new at this but my blog has been up for a while and I dont think anyone has visited it much less left a comment. Am I missing something or is my blog really that boring?
-
You’ll have to let potential readers know of your blog’s existence. Do a web search and you’ll find lots of sites with tons of tips on how to get people to pay attention to what you have to tell them.
Here are two good blogs at WordPress.com with blogging tips:

Please be sure that your blog is actually set up so others can find it and that your discussion settings allow people to leave comments. I’m suggesting this because I once was helping a blogger when she unexpectedly found out that her blog was set to “private”.
You might want to check your settings here -> Options -> Privacy
Privacy Options
Blog visibility: ______I would like my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Sphere, and in public listings around WordPress.comNow check your comment options set-up here -> Options -> Discussion
Also note that the best way to get comments on your own blog is leave comments on other blogs. It’s important that you link your username to your blog then when you leave comments others can click your username and read your blog. link your username to your blog

It takes 50-100 hits per day to get people leaving comments, generally speaking. Until you reach that point, everyone is too shy.
-
Ah, so that is why I get so few comments on my blog. I’ll have to look into attracting more readers then.
-
I’ve noticed that a high percentage of my readers are smartasses (all my friends) but even I have a ratio of less than one comment per hundred hits. I know a blog that gets 20,000 hits a day, and perhaps five comments.
-
It must be something about the blog format though. When I post my reviews on a forum or a mailing list, I get at least one or two comments on each post. Is a blog too open/visible? Are readers just not used to blogs yet?
-
A forum and a mailing list are both opt-in and equal-footing. A blog is “Here are my thoughts. You may, if you dare, put your thoughts in a comment which I may or may not allow to stand.” If what you really want is a community, I recommend starting a forum instead. Blogs can enable and even create community, but not as directly or effectively as forums.

i’m getting more hits than that raincoaster and I very rarely get comments..hehe. I don’t mind too much though because instead, i’ve been getting email comments. still, it would be cool to get some discussions going :)
-
Post a quiz then. People love to tell you their score. Or cultivate the acquaintance of smartasses, as I have.
-
Hooray for boring blogs! ;-) I prefer not to advertise my blog. It helps me write more freely. That’s me though.
-
Well whether or not you prefer advertising on your blog wordpress.com is running google adsense ads on it and you’re not allowed to. So, do you have some tips to share with the OP on how to get more comments?
-
Most don’t comment. But edit your profile and put the url of your blog so on the forum it’s clickable where people can visit more.
