No option to upload plugin or new theme

    Hello, I am running into some issues with my site, PaigeCerulli.com. I have just this site set up, so my main profile is my administrator profile.

    I recently purchased the Salient theme with plans of using it on this site. I discovered WordPress won’t allow you to upload a theme unless you have a different host, so I transferred the site’s hosting to Bluehost, as suggested by WordPress. While in Bluehost I ran the ‘install WordPress’ feature to use the site as an editor, then logged into WordPress using the admin credentials supplied by Bluehost.

    While in my admin view, I do not see any option to upload a theme. I uploaded the theme via the File Manager in Blue Host, but the theme still doesn’t appear. After contacting Salient’s tech support, I was advised to upload the plugin Envato Market to my site, and that that should take care of the theme upload.

    Problem is, I have no option to upload the plugin from my Admin panel or the plugin page. I’ve looked up the directions for uploading a plugin, and they all state that I should have an “upload plugin” button. I don’t.

    I upgraded to a paid WordPress plan to see if this solved the issue, as one of the features listed was increased site customization options. This made no difference.

    I am also trying to determine what version of WordPress the site is running, but I can’t find this information anywhere. Any guide I find online identifies information that my site simply doesn’t provide. I suspect it’s time to update the site to a new version of WordPress, as I can’t remember ever being prompted to update, and I’ve had the site for 2 years now.

    Can anyone provide any insight as to what is going on here? I am so frustrated at this point and am beginning to wonder if there’s something seriously wrong with my site.

    Uploading custom themes and plugins is not possible over here at WordPress.com. But it looks like you are referring to a self-hosted site which uses the WordPress software.

    This support forum is for sites hosted on WordPress.com, not for the self-hosted version of WordPress. More information on what’s different – https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    You should be able to get help from WordPress.org Support Forums.
