No permalink option in setttings

Have recently set up a wordpress blog on wordpress.com ie a free one.
However I cant find the permalink option which I thought was standard as I have used the free hosting before.
If it is no longer there, is the only option to edit each link before I post?

The permalink structure on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like the one linked to your username to cannot be changed. There is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com that allows you to change permanent structure. If that’s a deal breaker for you then you have to hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install.

I help maintain a number of wordpress blogs, some free at wordpress.com and some hosted.
Must have got confused.
Its only a short term project for IWD in March so will make do with what’s on offer, but something to bear in mind when setting up an ongoing blog.

We have never been able to change permalink structures on WordPress.com blogs but have always been able to do that on WordPress.org installs. You’re welcome and best wishes with your short term project. :)
