No picture on Facebook link…

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’ve clearly missed something here! When I put a link to my WP site on Facebook I get the usual FB display box but there’s no picture in it – just a blank space where the picture should be. Any idea how I can resolve this? Is it because my home page has a sliding banner header?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

You can add a picture by uploading a Blavatar (blog picture/icon) for your site. You can do that under Settings > General in your site’s WP Admin dashboard.

Another option with the Stay theme you’re using on your site is to upload a Site Logo to display on your site itself. You can do that in your site’s Customizer, in the “Site Title, Tagline, and Logo” section.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    Hi there!

My best guess is that there are actually no picture for Facebook to pull from the front page since the image slider pictures are just the featured images from the other pages. Facebook is already not the best at pulling the right images. But here is one trick which may work:

    1. Add a featured image to your homepage the one you want to show up on Facebook Posts. Make sure that when it gives you the option to select a picture that you select the “media library” tab and then change the “images” selector to “uploaded to this page”. That should ensure that the image is associated with that page.

    2. Quickly go over to FaceBook and share the link to the front page. I’d recommend sharing it to your wall and setting the privacy so that only you can see the post.

    3. Go back to WordPress and remove that picture as the featured image because it will look ugly and out of place.

If it works the same for you as it did for me, Facebook should actually save the image at least for a while and that should be the picture that shows up.

Some other options which would be more reliable would be:
    1. Add a picture to the front page in the text editor.
    2. When you share on facebook, just share a picture and add the link in the description, (instead of posting it as a link).

Let me know if none of those options are acceptable for you.

    Kind regards,
    Jason

LOL! @rachelmrc’s solution is much better! I didn’t see her response when I started typing mine!
