No plug-ins on my dashboard
-
Hi guys,
I’m trying to figure out how I can convert my blog so that I’ll be able to have plug-ins. I’ve been reading around and I understand that wordpress.com sites cannot have custom plug-ins, but wordpress.org sites can?
The site I’m working on is http://more.tubitv.com; when I did some search on whoishostingthis.com it says the site is hosted by Automattic.
How do I go about getting plug-ins added to my site at this point?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://more.tubitv.com/ is hosted by wordpress.COM which is owned by Automattic Inc.
Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/For that type of functionality you’d need a self-hosted WordPress.ORG software install running on a paid web hosting service.

Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site is a guide that will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/

Make sure you are logged in under the exact same username that registered the .wordpress.com URL and purchased the domain mapping for it.

Thanks so much for your response!
Ok, here’s what I’m really trying to do with a plug-in, wondering if it’s worth it to switch the site over for this — I want to make specific posts appear under specific pages. I read that this is only available by plug-in, but not sure.

No plugin is required for that at all. You just need to create a cutom menu.
This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) Or a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.By default the front page of a blog displays all published posts in reverse chronological order with the most recently published post on top. When we publish a post on WordPress software the software automatically creates the same entry in the Archives, and on the dynamic (automatically updating) Categories and Tags pages in accord with the Categories and Tags we assign to that post.
So when we create custom menu and add the dynamic (automatically updating) category pages to that custom menu we create the appearance (not the reality) of posting to more than one page.
You need to be aware that:
1. There are differences between posts and pages described here
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/2. There are differences between static pages we bloggers create https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ that will not automatically update, and dynamic category pages created by the software when you publish a post which will automatically update https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/.
3. We organize posts by category assignment prior to publication. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/ and when we publish posts the dynamic category pages they automatically display on are determined by the categories we assign to them.
So the process you need to use is:
a. Assign Categories to your Posts. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories
b. Create a custom menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#1-create-a-custom-menu
c. Add only the dynamic category page links into the custom menu that you want to appear in that menu https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-category-pages and arrange them as you wish them to appear https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menus
d. Create pages and sub-pages for static content, not for posts https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
e. Add any custom links and other items like static pages and sub-pages into your custom menu
https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-custom-links https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#adding-pages
and arrange them as you wish them to appear https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/view-all/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menusPlease see https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/

You’ew welcome. It works very well but you have to go slowly and understand everything you are doing in step by step fashion.

Hi! Thanks so much. I only ran into one problem – I’m trying to make the Front page display as a Static page but I want that static page to only display one category. Is this possible?
I was able to create a custom menu for posts / different categories but now my front page is displaying all latest posts, and I only want it to display posts from one category.

If you set a static front page then it will not display any posts. And, all items you put into a custom menu will display as tabs at the top of every page in the site.
This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page.
(2) Or a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page. -
If the static front page does not display any posts, what is the purpose of putting it there?
I guess, what I’m really trying to do is to make “HOME” from the custom menu the same as the actual front page as well.
-
Some people use it as an introductory page. I don’t ever set a static front page because I consider all static front pages that make returning visitors click through the same page with the same welcome blah, blah, blah it to be traffic killers. Returning visits come to read your most recent published posts so that’s what my front page has on it. By default the front page is the home page and it is at the site URL when anyone clicks in.

I don’t know what you mean by that.
When any post is published then it will appear either (1) on the Front page at the URL for the blog as it is the Home page by default (2) or on the Blogs page, if you create a static front page.
If the published post has categories assigned to it then it will also appear on the dynamic category page for that specific category.

Hi, sorry, I guess I should explain better.
If you go to more.tubitv.com as it is right now, you’ll notice that there are two posts that are displaying on the front page: “Tubi TV hosts watch party…” and “Movie review of The Pink Panther 2”We would like for our front page to ONLY display Tubi TV news, NOT movie reviews. Because movie reviews are just secondary content to us. We only want Movie review posts to show up under the Movie reviews custom menu.
