no plugin tab on my dashboard
-
I use wordpress.org which I understand allows the use of plugins. After checking many tutorials I’m still confused about the use of plugins. I have uploaded two plugins onto my server into the WP plugins folder and they are present.
However, I have no plugins tab on my dashboard. I’ve seen in various tutorials that it should appear under Appearance.
Can’t locate the answer to this anywhere. What am I doing wrong.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We cannot help with self-hosted blogs. Those are supported at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ . This forum is for those that are hosted her at wordpress.COM.

Plugins are not allowed on blogs at wordpress.COM for security reasons. Plugins are for self-hosted blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

You cannot have plugins on a wordress.COM blog. Period. End of sentence.
If you have to have plugins, hire a web hosting company such as godaddy or bluehost etc., install and configure the wordpress.ORG software at that host and plugin your life away. Figure with all things included, a monthly cost of around $10 to $25 depending on bandwidth and storage requirements.
You will be responsible for all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting and repair of the site. If something goes wrong you will have to figure out what went wrong and fix it.

WordPress does not allow forms, iframes, javascript, flash, and other code due to security concerns. All those things have brought down and cause many problems for social networking and blogging sites.
Tell us what you are looking for when you say “forms.” Perhaps there is a way to get you what you are looking for.

@suedent1
Please understand that free blogs from and being hosted by wordpress>COM are NOT the same as wordpresss.ORG installs. The software is different.

Based on the above I imagine that it is impossible to get an ’email opt in’ in any form attached to a wordpress.com blog?
Thanks. -
WordPress.COM has an email Widget that allows people to sign-up to be sent an email when your blog has a new Post.
Close enough?
WordPress.COM has taken many functions from Plug-in’s and made Widgets out of those functions, so don’t let the “no Plug-in” line make you think that it is the same as “no features” or “can’t do”

It’s called the subscriptions widget. Just place it in your sidebar and people can then subscribe to your blog and every time you publish a post, you will they will get an email with an excerpt and a link to the new post.
