No question, just a comment

    Hello WordPress

I just wanted to pass this along to you. When I receive an email notification that says you have a new subscriber to your blog and they seem to be from….so and so. The location is most definitely inaccurate in two out of the 4 of my subscribers. I happen to know that these people have no affiliation with those locations whatsoever.

No worries, I know my followers names, so I know where there are really from. I assume more popular blogs won’t always know their subscribers and this little bug will mess up their ideas about a demographic.

Thanks a bunch! I’m new to WordPress, but I love it already, thanks for that :)

  • Unfortunately, that’s not something that we can fix. We use the IP address to guess an approximate location, but that all depends on where the ISP has the IP located.

Traditionally, the IP wouldn’t report a location too far from where you are, but some ISPs are just a bit off.

For example, my location is reported as being about 500 miles from where I live, just because that is where the ISP is based, and they prefer all of their IPs to reflect that.
