No "Read More" block
-
In my 2016 Theme blog, I added a “More” block after the quote block paragraph containing “This is a quote,” but when I view my site, the whole post appears as if the “More” block is not there.
Is this a bug in the theme or am I doing something wrong?
My post can be viewed at https://wordpress.com/block-editor/post/writerhoward.wordpress.com/1214.
This problem occurs in another post too.

Hi,
There’s no bug. It’s working correctly. The More Block doesn’t affect the single post that it is inserted into. It truncates that post on the blog page and on other archives pages. You can see that it does so in this case on the front/blog page.

If you want to display a portion of a single post with a link to the rest of it, then you may use the Page Break Block.

musicdoc1,
I’m confused. When I submitted the support post yesterday the More Block in the “Bug in WordPress 2016 Theme” post was not displaying its effect on my front page when I previewed the post. Now it is, but I did not change it.
Thanks for the link to the Page Break Block info. I was unaware of it.
Last, is the Page Break Block available in all themes?
-
In my latest post, “Ramos needs to narrow extra-base hits gap between him and Alonso,” I just inserted a More Block after the paragraph “A Mets pitcher, Zach Wheeler, has as many extra-base hits” and then both previewed the and clicked “Visit Site.”
There was no truncation after the More Block.
What might I be doing wrong?

Yes.

There was no truncation after the More Block.
The post is presently truncated at that point on the front page. I’m not sure which preview you’re referring to, but the effect of the More Block certainly won’t be seen on the front page until you’ve saved the edit with the update button. Did you update the page before looking?
-
If looking before updating is not the issue, it could possibly be a caching issue. Maybe you’re looking before the edit has gone into effect.
-
It seems that what was happening was that even though I was updating, when I viewed the post I was not on the home page, which is where I had expected to be. By clicking “Home” on the menu bar at the top of my front page, I was able to see the change.
Thank you for your help.
