No reply from email support

Hi. I sent an email to support eight days ago and have not received a reply. Is this extended delay in turnaround time the norm?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Good morning –

Thanks for reaching out to us.

I’ll be happy to answer your questions about full site editing.

My suggestion to test the features of the full site editing capabilities is to create another free site for testing purposes. This will allow you to grow in knowledge and skill before applying any changes on your live site.

Click on My Sites – Add New Site – and then use a .wordpress.com free address.

Once that’s done, mark it as private which will hide it from search engines and viewers.

    >In other words, is this a block that I can alter to suit my design?

Yes. You’ll be able to customize every aspect of the project.

    >Are there any other restrictions on this theme?

Is this question about Floral or a different theme?

Let us know if you need help with any of those steps.

Thank you for your reply, Zinnia.

My question about restrictions pertains to a theme that I propose to port from wordpress.org: Smartcube. Not sure if you can help with that, though. My primary concern is whether the theme’s fonts can be customized. “Custom Fonts” is not listed in the tags.

As for updating my theme from Floral, which has been retired, I think it might be easier just to rebuild the site as opposed to convert-and-fix. I am planning a static home page in Smartcube, as I have now in Floral (with the main blog page in another section of the site).

    cheers, Alison

  • Hey there,

Happy to help you with this.

my primary concern is whether the theme’s fonts can be customized. “Custom Fonts” is not listed in the tags.

Generally speaking, the fonts of any theme, Floral or Smartcube can be customized, but would need a plugin or an extra step (importing the font) to apply to the site.

What font are you looking to apply to the site, and what’s the desired effect?

Depending on the font, it may be something already built into a theme.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Hello, aleone89.
I have changed my mind about the theme and now wish to upgrade to Bitácora, instead. Sorry about this, but I am having to redesign my website in toto in order to use the site and block editors and everything else Gutenberg.
The question re: customization of fonts still applies, but differently. I was told that Bitácora (and Tenaz, another theme that I like) come bundled with a limited number of fonts.
If I go with the Bitácora theme, I would opt for the white background, and use Cormorant for everything except where I need to quote from tracts of text or transcripts of historical records. For quotes & transcripts, I would like to use Texturina on a shaded background. The shading would be a light taupe, selected from the RGB colour wheel. — How would I do this, since it seems that every aspect of typography defaults to the selected font?
… and how would I go about providing a shaded background?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    cheers, Alison
p.s. Should I be addressing these questions via Contact/Support email?

  • Hi Alison!

You’re welcome to open chats or emails if you’d like. Whatever is most convenient for you.

I think you’re going to enjoy using the Style editor. You’ll go to the Site Editor > Styles > Blocks, then you can set up a style for your Quote block, including font and background color (or gradient even). You can adjust spacing and outlines and all sorts of things, then save it and have all quotes on the site default to that style. You can also still edit individual quotes to your liking.

If you still need to upload fonts, you’ll want to use a plugin for that. I’d recommend choosing one that works with the site editor.

Also: did you know your plan includes the option to create a staging site? You might use that, then tinker with the theme and styles and whatnot:

    Create a Staging Site
    4 min read
Use a staging site to clone your entire WordPress.com site for testing purposes. This guide will show you how to create a staging site on WordPress.com. This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Business or Commerce plan. 📌 This is a beta feature. If you find that something does not work as expected or you would like to share ideas on how to improve this feature

And if you’re interested, we’ve got webinars on using the Site Editor so you can get a better feel for what’s possible (a lot is possible!)

    I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply, supernovia.

Because my site is currently in Classic mode with an expired theme, at some point I’m going to have to take the leap and put up an “under construction”-ish page, while revising the site page by page in the background. I already have a staged, free version set up and it is a good way to learning the basics.

    cheers

  • Hi there,

I can confirm that I’m able to see your free site, and that is definitely a good low-risk way to experiment with a new theme.

Since your site arborealis.ca is under our Business Plan, another option you have is to create a business staging site. This is an exact copy of your current site, hosted at a private URL, and you can use it to experiment with theme switches, design changes, different plugins, etc.

For what you are considering (updating to a newer theme) this is a nice way to do a “practice run” by updating an exact copy of your site, to see how it affects your current content. You can safely delete the staging site after you are done experimenting, or delete and start over with a new staging site in the event you want to try out a different set of changes.

It is currently not possible to “push” the changes from your staging site to the live site at arborealis.ca, but you would be much more confident in making changes to the live site having already tried it out on a staging site.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hello, staff-tortoro.
This is sage advice, as I was contemplating having to use an “under construction” plugin and re-do the entire website one page at a time behind that plugin. It may still come to that, but as a middle ground I’ll give the staging site a twirl around the upgraded theme dance floor on my main site.
    cheers

Marked as resolved, though conversion from a Classic to a FSE (Full Site Editing) theme continues and requires a lot of tweaks.
