No Results When Searching for My Own Blog in Reader

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey there!

I’ve noticed that recently when I search for my own blog with key words (either blog title or my user name) via WordPress’s Reader I don’t get any results! Why is that?

Also I’ve noticed recently that the banner usually displayed on free blogs suddenly disappeared. (I don’t have a paid plan.) Why is that?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

    Sincerely,
    AJ

    Hi there:

It’s because your site is marked “Mature”. We do permit mature content on WordPress.com, including text, images, and videos that contain nudity, offensive language, and mature subject material. However, websites that contain such content must be marked as Mature in our system.

A website that is marked as Mature is excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service. This means:

    – It will not appear in the Reader or other tag listings
    – It will not appear in Top Blogs listings, recent posts, or related posts listings on other blogs
    – It cannot be used as a link in a WordPress.com Forums profile

Additionally, it removes any advertising from your site, which is why the banner was removed.

You can read more about our Mature blog policy here: https://wordpress.com/support/mature-content/

    I hope that clarifies things!

Thanks! Yes, that clarifies things for a start.

Still, one other question: the second bullet point that it will not appear in Top Blogs listings, recent posts, or related posts listings on other blogs, does that mean that subscribers to the blog won’t be informed in their Readers about new posts to the blog?

Also, if I upgrade to a paid plan will it still be excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service?

Again, I’d be glad for any and all helpful answers!

    Sincerely,
    AJ

Subscribers will still see content in their Reader feeds, your site just won’t be searchable in the Reader and people would need to find your site directly in order to follow/subscribe.

Also, if I upgrade to a paid plan will it still be excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service?

Yes. The Mature content designation would remain regardless of your plan status.
