No shortened URL with Twitter tweet button

  When I or anyone else clicks on the Twitter button on a post to tweet it, my site doesn’t produce a shortened URL as stated in the WordPress support page:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/twitter/twitter-tweet-button/

  Is there anything I can do to rectify this?
