no site no stats no email one week

  For almost a week people have been unable to email me and I have had no visits to my site, my site is also not available. For over a year I have been a domain mapping customer & been through the MX configuration to allow me access to gmail & apps my main email being (email visible only to moderators and staff). This has all been working fine without any problems until now…

  When I logged into dashboard last week I read the message my mapping was about to expire so last night I renewed it hoping that this might fix the problem. However it hasn’t and I am beginning to wonder if the domain name has expired? I am fairly sure I registered this name creativedynamo.net with wordpress at about the same time last year but I cannot see any domain management controls and when I try to re-register it I get the message ‘domain has already been mapped to a WordPress.com blog’!

  A whois search returns some information from my old domain name registrar 1&1 internet saying that the domain is no longer registered with them. Please can anybody help me ?

  You also need to renew your domain – domain registration and domain mapping are separate actions and both need to be current for things to work properly –

  Can’t I leave 1&1 and use wordpress for my domain name registration too as it would be easier that way?

  There are some timing problems with leaving 1& 1 – I don’t think WordPress.COM can accept transfers of domains into their registration system – so you would need to let your old domain get out of the redemption period which has your site down for a long time and also someone else can grab your name when it is released –

  Best and simplest is to just fix the renewal at 1 & 1 and then renew your domain mapping here – you will be back up in 24 to 72 hours – leaving 1 & 1 registration will take I think 45++ days if my memory is correct.

  I REALLY wanted to leave 1&1 last year and come over to wordpress for name registration so I cancelled everything I had with them ! However because I cancelled I received no reminder and now that the domain name has expired (but still in 30 days redemption period) I have to pay 1&1 extra to redeem the name PLUS pay for their regular name service which realyy sucks. My advice to new users is to use the wordpress name registration service and keep everything in one place! Thank you for the advice this will take days to sort out hopefully others will learn from my mistake :)

  PS Google mail is still sending but not receiving so that’s not all bad
  PPS I have changed primary domain in dashboard back to the wordpress default so at least the site is live until I can sort this mess out
