No Unfollow option at Manage Following

The How to Unfollow a blog if you’re a WordPress.com user section of the Following Blogs support page says:

First, make sure you’re logged in. Then visit the site you want to Unfollow and click the button that says Following in the bottom right-hand corner.

I don’t find the Follow button or the Action bar on any WordPress.com site when logged in. This has been the case for at least the last few weeks. I suspect it’s due to my browser settings.

    The support page continues:

You can also click Edit List in your Reader to display the list of blogs you follow. Find the blog you no longer wish to follow, then click the green word Following next to the name of the site to stop receiving notifications of new posts from that blog.

The “Edit List” link links to the Manage Following page. I also don’t find the green Following buttons there. The only thing to the right of each item in the list is the Settings icon. That opens to a set of notification and email options. Might the absence of the Following buttons there also be due to browser settings?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Attempts to follow a site are also presently failing at Manage Following.

  • Howdy, Doc!

If it’s your browser settings, I’m not sure what exactly we can do to help. The action bar relies on JavaScript to work, so if you’re using settings or browser add-ons that are blocking that code, it won’t work. The only way around that is to not block JavaScript in your browser.

Might the absence of the Following buttons there also be due to browser settings?

That would be my guess, as that button also relies on JavaScript.

Attempts to follow a site are also presently failing at Manage Following.

Same as above – if your browser is blocking the code the button needs to display, it’s plausible that it would also be blocking the code that needs to run in your browser to send the network request to follow a site to our servers.

    Okay, thanks : -)

I’ve never disabled JavaScript on my browser, and hadn’t changed my add-ons recently before this started happening. However, I still think FF browser settings might be the cause, so I’ll try some modifications ASAP. Firefox seems to be perpetually changing the organization of the Options pages, and specifically the Privacy & Security page, which today when I visited it briefly looked utterly different than the last time I’d been there.

I should have said that I haven’t intentionally disabled JavaScript. My FF configuration editor (about:config) indicates that it is presently enabled.

Or it could be due to changes in how a couple of my add-ons work, so I’ll try disabling them.

  • @musicdoc1 One easy test is to try another browser that hasn’t been modified much. If they show up there, and they show up for someone else using your version of FF, chances are it’s a browser setting.

    @supernovia,

Good idea! : -) That’s the kind of advice I give here all the time, but somehow forgot to do it for myself.

Yes, the Action bar appears with Google Chrome, as does the Follow button. Also the Following links appear at Manage Following. I’ve got the same add-ons on Chrome so it looks like the issue is probably browser privacy settings on FF.

    Thanks guys.
