no videos get uploaded

    Hi

I purchased a year of premium wordpress, the content I am going to post is almost entirely MP4 videos, and so far the page is unable to upload the videos. If this is a fault in the wordpress system, I need a full refund. Can someone give me advice? Is there a way to still upload the regular MP4 videos filmed by phone?

  • Hi there,

What is happening when you attempt to upload the videos? Are you receiving a timeout error? You can find the video requirements and specifications for an upload here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/videopress/#video-requirements-and-specifications

Are your videos larger than 1GB? If so, that may be the root of the issue since videos with a file size larger than 1 GB tend to time out while uploading. If that is the case, compressing the video to a smaller file size will help.

Also, since you mentioned that your content will be primarily video uploads, keep in mind that the space provided for the Premium Plan is 13 GB, and the uploaded videos do count towards that number. The uploads do not count towards the upload limit for the Business Plan.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Hey

Thanks for the reply. It is a 15 seconds long MP4 video, and not bigger than 1GB. Its the first video I have tried to upload. Does it just take 24 hours or something? If so I would think it had to be approved? But it is a rated R video and I checked the box for rated R while uploading it.
Two different things happen each time I try. Either its just a black box where the video should be, or its a white box, with a line at the bottom that says play. However it is impossible to play anything.
    Thank you for helping!

  • Hi there,

The file uploaded just fine and is in your media library. I can also view the file via the direct link available in the media library. But when the video player in the video block tries to fetch the file, it’s getting an error.

I did some testing, and it appears to be specific to this file. My guess is something in how the file is encoded is preventing the video player from displaying it.

How did you create that video file? If you recorded it using your phone or a webcam, did you use a particular app to record it? Did you record it directly as a MP4, or did you convert it from another format?

On an unrelated note, please take note of our policy on mature content on WordPress.com:

Your site has been marked as mature as per those guidelines.

    Hi

Thank you for your tips! It was helpful. I want a website where I can post all formats, so I am going to use a different website builder.
I dont love wix, but it seems like they are better with video

  • I want a website where I can post all formats

We support all major file types for video, including MP4:

    https://wordpress.com/support/accepted-filetypes/#video

And I can upload MP4 videos from my computer without any problems.

But not all MP4 files are created equal – different apps and different cameras can encode a MP4 file in different ways, and sometimes a file can be encoded in such a way that it causes errors in some video players.

If you answer the questions I asked above, we can check if that might be the case here, and see if it’s something that can be fixed from our end.
