No ‘Widget’ option in dashboard
-
I just started my website and I am looking to insert a widget onto my site, however, I do not have the ‘widget’ option on my dashboard under ‘appearance.’ What does this mean and how can I fix it? I do not have any plug-ins and I am using the Russell theme, which I don’t think is the problem. Under ‘appearance,’ my only options are ‘themes,’ ‘customize,’ ‘menus,’ ‘AMP,’ and ‘additional CSS.’

Hi there,
You’re not seeing a widgets option, because the Russell theme you’re using doesn’t have a widget area.
Which widget do you want to use?
Since WordPress 5.8 that came out last year, all widgets exist as blocks, so you can add them directly to a post or page in the editor. Depending on which widget you want and where you want it to appear, that might be an option for you.
Once your site becomes eligible for the new full-site editor released in WordPress 5.9, you’ll also be able to create your own widget area in the site editor, which can then be added automatically to all pages.
The site editor is already available for all new sites, but we’re making it available gradually for existing sites, and you should see the option to enable it within the next few weeks. Keep an eye on the Settings section in the dashboard – when you see an option appear there for Full Site Editing, it means your site is now eligible, and you can click on that option to enable the site editor.
Let me know if you have any questions.
