Non-functional tags

I checked my stats for my last post and, unusually, there were ‘0’ views. I clicked through the various tags in the post and didn’t find my post under any of them. Although the post appeared in my blog as usual, none of the tags appear to be functional. Does anyone know why this would have happened? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Stats may take a few minutes to register on your blog

Things may or may not show up on the tags pages based on a variety of factors, many of which we can’t talk about. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

As your blog is fairly new, give it a few weeks to start showing up in search engines and such, which should help your traffic out. Try leaving comments on other blogs that talk about the same things you do. (And don’t forget to add your URL to your profile, it isn’t there now.) And finally, try not to use the same tag and category on the same post, generally people use a word on one or the other, not both.

    I hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, but… The post had gone out 7 hours previously when I checked stats, not a few minutes. The tags have been effective up until now.

Could the variety of factors you can’t discuss include references to controversial activities that certain agencies may object to? Also, this was my first time-stamped post. Is there any way that could have affected it?

I have had a couple search engine hits already. I’ve left a few comments, too.

Thanks for the tip about the URL. As for tags and categories, as far as I can see, categories only help you find posts within the URL/blog you are currently in, whereas tags enable you to find them in other blogs throughout WordPress.com. Is that correct, or am I missing something? If I am correct, why would I use different words in each?

In my experience, WP.com doesn’t censor for political content or controversy; they WILL drop you off the tag/category global pages if your blog is considered “Mature” which generally means explicit sexual content.

But your problem is probably in the timestamping issue. Posts on my blog typically get 5-20 comments in 24 hours, but I posted two timestamped posts last night and neither have gotten any comments at all. Timestamped posts, for weird technical reasons, don’t show up in the global tag pages until you edit them. Just go back into the post and click Edit and you don’t even need to change anything, but it should then show up in the tag pages.

Thanks! It shows up now. A little late, but… Is there any way that technical issue can be addressed? It would be good if a time-stamped post was fully functional at the time of going out. I can’t always edit it right afterwards. (If I could, I’d probably just post it manually at that time).

Otherwise, this problem seems to be resolved. Thanks to everyone for their input and advice.

What happens is, it sends out pings when you WRITE it, not when it posts…and of course, there’s nothing there! I don’t know how that will ever be fixed; it’s a problem not just in WordPress but in all blog platforms as far as I know.
