    Hi earthman3,

We don’t have a specific plan for non-profits but there are several you can choose from:

    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

that will have sponsers and advertisers?

When you say advertisers, do you want to display ads for earning revenue? Or do you want to sell ad space to specific companies?

Third party ad networks are supported on the Business plan and we also have the WordAds program — both of which are a way to earn from displaying ads.

Let me know what you’re thinking and I can recommend a plan that may be suitable.

    Thanks Gemma.

As a newly formed non-profit we were probably going to start with the premium package at $8/mo. This seems to be a “business” plan based on the link you provided, unless you were being more specific.

we would be selling or providing ad space for third party enteties and businesses related to our mission within the site. Not for earning revenue.

  • Hi there,

This seems to be a “business” plan based on the link you provided, unless you were being more specific.

The $8/month plan is not the business plan, although many businesses do decide to use that plan, if that makes sense. The $25/month plan is the business plan (you have to click the arrow on the right to see that plan and its features).

we would be selling or providing ad space for third party enteties and businesses related to our mission within the site. Not for earning revenue.

As @gemmacevans stated, that is feature that comes with the Business Plan.

    Hope that helps!

Sorry for my lack of understanding (i am new to this) but I dont understand. If i look at the plan options page i see three options for “blogs and personal sites” and three options for business sites (plural) and online stores. The Premium plan at $8 is under the business plans but are you saying it is not a business plan????

The Premium plan also says that it can have ads right at the top.
If I put in an image somewhere on the site that advertized some business, is there a wp police that will not allow that? Should be ok for premium but maybe not for a free site option even though I could do it that way. Maybe that is where the policing might come in?

As a non profit just starting out, we will not have the budget for more than the premium plan at this time.

Thanks, any insights would be helpful. Mike.

  • Mike, our apologies. We’ve been experimenting with grouping the plans and it looks like we unintentionally made things less clear for you.

The biggest difference between the $8/month plan and the $25/month plan is that you can add outside plugins and themes to the latter.

In my opinion, if you’re not using JavaScript, iFrames, or plugins to place ads on the site, the Premium $8/month plan would work just fine. Here is the code the Premium plan allows:

    Add Code to Your Site

So, if you sell add space at a fixed price for one month, for example, and it’s literally just an image and a link to the advertiser’s site, you’d likely be fine. Some organizations prefer to operate that way.

And, you would have access to enable WordAds on your site as well: just note we can’t control what shows up on those ads (you can read more here) so if you’re aiming to work directly with specific advertisers via WordAds, that wouldn’t work as well.

If your advertisers do require outside plugins or iFrames and JavaScript and what not, which you’ll often see with Pay Per Click systems and outside ad networks, you’d need the $25/month plan.

I know that’s a lot of information in one post, but I hope it’s helpful! If you have more questions, let us know.

Thanks much, that was very helpful.

My plan is to make the site public soon. . . just after I get a domain name set up and upgrade to the Premium plan.

My question is: if I pay for the two-year Premium plan, I assume the one year free Domain name is not free after that first year, and it will automatically be charged some unknown amount. 1. how much is that domain renewal each year, and 2. Can I get a discount if I pay for multiple years for the Domain name?

As a volunteerr, I am building the site for a small non-profit just starting up. I will use my credit card for now and get re-imbursed, but hope that I can set up a yearly auto pay using the non-profit’s own debit card number, at some later date. Please confirm that I can do this as well.

    Thank you. . .

  • My question is: if I pay for the two-year Premium plan, I assume the one year free Domain name is not free after that first year, and it will automatically be charged some unknown amount.

If you buy a two-year plan, the domain is also registered for two years.

    1. how much is that domain renewal each year,

That depends on the domain extension you register. You can find the renewal cost of all the domain extensions we offer here:

    Domain Pricing and Available TLDs

    2. Can I get a discount if I pay for multiple years for the Domain name?

We do not give a discount for multi-year domain renewals.

I will use my credit card for now and get re-imbursed, but hope that I can set up a yearly auto pay using the non-profit’s own debit card number, at some later date. Please confirm that I can do this as well.

You can update the payment information used for automatic renewal, associated with a particular upgrade, at any time by clicking on the upgrade on the Purchases page. You can also save a credit/debit card on the account on the Billing History page that can then be used for future new purchases or manual renewals.
