None of my blogs appear in google search

Hi, I’ve been working on my website/blog for the past few weeks and have got to the stage where I’m quite happy with it. I also purchased the domain name. However, I’m finding that none of my blog content or tags or whatever keyword I’m searching isn’t appearing in Google search. I’ve linked the address and site map to google webmaster tools but it hasn’t made any difference. Don’t know much about SEO but I’ve been reading round the subject a lot on these forums and the general consensus seems to be that wordpress does a lot of that work for you and you don’t really need to do much else. However I’m still not appearing on google. Maybe I’ve missed out some vital components so any help much appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

For starters you missed the part about search engines taking 4 to 6 weeks to index a new site – and that is only if you have content worth indexing (more than on Post for instance)

The more you blog (Post) the more search engines like you

Thanks, I didn’t realise it took that long. I thought maybe it might be because I’m using this as both website and blog with static pages. I did come up on yahoo but not google.

Don’t know how much a static landing page hurts – but you do have some Posts, keep them up, makes your site look more alive

yes it takes that long, I did a test a year or so back on a new blog and kept track of the indexing, just as Google indexed my new site, they decided to re-index the entire universe and I dropped back off the index listing for seems like over a week

You can also make Posts about some of the different jobs you have done and what challenges they had – that will also let prospective clients know about work you have done and how you solved problems in the past

Yes I am planning to do that thank you, I just wanted to get a feel for the mechanics first about how it all works and fits together. So far, not appearing feels like I’ll be talking to myself which isn’t the best incentive to write.

head over to tiemthief’s site for how to market your blog and build traffic – she also helps in the forum

Thank you that’s a very comprehensive site which should give some pointers. Can I just ask one last thing. My site name underwent a few changes until I finally registered it. I registered http://www.turkish-business-translations.com with google webmaster but I’ve noticed on My Blogs section of the dashboard it says
    Current Address: turkbiztrans.wordpress.com
Could this be affecting search results as well?

    1) turkish-business-translations.com – is only 4 days old (yes the blog is 4 weeks old) but search engines now need to get used to a new name – will take a bit of time

    2) turkbiztrans.wordpress.com – that is your base blog you mapped the domain name to – no real effect on search results other than you just changed the blog URL and it will take a bit of time for search engines to get used to the change –

NOTE: you will always work in the base blog turkbiztrans.wordpress.com – on your dashboard – your visitors will see the custom domain name

Actually, after a few weeks or months it does update to teh custom name on the dashboard, but you can’t control how fast.

Thank you, you’ve been very helpful.

Also, as you suspected one of the reasons you’re not showing in Google is that you have only a handful of blog posts and they are behind a static opening page. The single best thing you can do for your google ranking is to have the site open on the blog. If you don’t want to do that, move teh blog so it’s the very next tab from the opening page and BLOG MORE.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I’ve been debating ad infinitum with myself what the landing page should be. I don’t really want to open on the blog so I will do as you suggest and make the blog page 2 and see if that makes a difference. Thank you.
