None of the themes will load

I just set up my account and wanted to start customizing a free theme. None of the themes will load. I click activate, then go to customize, but i still get the standard blog layout.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s been almost 24 hours since I reported this issue. When do you think I will get an answer? Thank you!

So because I clicked Skip when prompted to choose a theme in the account setup process, now I can’t load any theme. I tried creating a news website from the same account, chose an initial theme and now it works. But I need to use the initial adress. Can you help me fix this?

    Thank you!

So I`ve set up my second site from the same account. I’ve even switched the email adress to a gmail one. Tried both mozilla and chrome (with latest updates) and still can’t load a single theme! Doesn’t anyone at wordpress work on weekends?

It goes without saying that there will be less staff around in the forums at the weekends. Your site is set to private so volunteers cannot see it. Also, to attract the attention of staff you need to add modlook to the tag box on the right. I have done that and hopefully in due course staff will be able to look “behind the scenes” and help with your problem.

I`ve set it to public. Thank you for your help.

  • Hi there,

What exactly do you mean you can’t load a theme? What happens when you click on My Site ->Themes? Not the Customize button, but on the Themes tab itself? There you should see all themes listed, and be able to activate a different theme from there.

I click activate, then go to customize, but i still get the standard blog layout.

If you want your site to have a static page instead of a blog layout for the front page, you need to change that under the front page tab in the Customizer. That does not change automatically if you select a different theme – any theme you activate will be applied to your site as your site is at the moment, and you need to follow the particular theme’s setup instructions to get it looking like the demo.

For example, you can find instructions for the Canape theme you currently have active here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/canape/

Hello and thank you for you reply.

I have no problem finding and activating the Canape theme. Once I go to the customization panel i get this very basic layout, which has none of the canape features and menus. I tried many other free themes and I get the same issue.

I set up the statig page and it still looks the same. I wish I could send you some print screens so you can see for yourself.

Can this be fixed? I also tried creating a new one from the same account and still have the same problem. I would create a new account but even if I delete this site I won’t be able to use this link again.

What can I do to fix this?

    Thank you!

  • Are you referring to how it looks if you view your site’s front page? The Customizer preview should look the same:

    https://elbrelocito.wordpress.com/

It looks that way because you haven’t yet added any content to your site. You first need to add some posts, pages, menu items and testimonials before you can configure your theme to display them. The Customizer can’t show you content that doesn’t exist yet.

Posts, pages and testimonials you can set up from the respective My Sites tabs, and you can find the Food Menu options in the WP-Admin dashboard:

    http://elbrelocito.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Let me know if you need any more help with that. If you need to send me a screen shot, you can use a service like Cloudup.com or snag.gy, or you can upload them directly to your media library and I’ll be able to see them there.

    Hello again

I added two print screens to my media library. Number 2 shows I uploaded front page featured photos which don’t show up even after I click Save & Publish. Number 1 shows I don’t have an option to upload the full width featured image (like shown here in the info section for the canape theme).

Even after I create new pages, which I did, they still don’t update my current layout.

I built many sites in wordpress.com and this is the first time this happens to me. Usually customizing free themes is simple. You activate them and get the same layout shown in the theme presentation.

    Thank you!

Ok, I managed to narrow it down to just one problem. I can’t set the three front page features photos to appear on the front page. Thank you.

I added a photo to my media called ”print screen 3” which shows that although I added food menu sections, they don’t appear in the customization pannel. I think that is why those three photos aren’t displaied on the front page. If you could help me figure this out, that would be great. Thank you!

  • I can see all three images showing on your front page now, so looks like you figured it out?
