Noob here: can’t fix # of posts displayed per page (tried settings/reading…)

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! I am currently running the zoologist theme; I want to adjust number of posts displayed to 7, changed it in settings, but doesn’t work. I tried looking for cache to clear, but not running any plug-ins at all. Tried another theme, same thing, Also, none of my posts are stickies. I literally adjusted nothing, just tried to post… please help!

Much appreciated, thank you. Would be happy to tip anyone by paypal $20 to fix this.

    Hi ,

Please check settings -> writing -> content types. It’s under that section. Save the settings after changing the number.

    Also check..

Thank you kindly for your response. I just tried it and unfortunately still does not work…

    Best,

  • Hi Owen,

I can see you’re using the Query Loop Block on your homepage so, to limit the number of posts, you’d have to set it in that block options:

Here’s more information about the block: https://wordpress.com/support/full-site-editing/theme-blocks/query-loop-block/.

    I hope that helps :)

staff-mckluskey Hi. This is a bit confusing. I also thought so at first as well, but on my test site ablogdemo using Zoologist I was able to change the number of posts from Settings>Writing as @shwetharmaiya mentioned in her reply.

my 2¢/I’d also think that if Zoologist was chosen as the default theme for new bloggers, there’d be interest in giving them an experience with less friction. Telling them they need to change that setting by jumping into the Query Loop block is diving into the deep end (IMO).

Thank you both for your reply.

The Query Loop block suggestion sounds promising, but when I click on the block area, try as I might anywhere, I do not get the same settings bar (I checked a Youtube video about adjusting Query Loop block and I don’t get the same settings bar when I click the same area) —

I took a snapshot but I don’t know how to add to this post…

Sorry, I don’t mean to be such a noob. If you could help me, I’d greatly appreciate it. I don’t mind setting temporary login and of course will follow-up with the 20$/paypal offer if fixed.

    Best sincerely,
    Owen

  • Hello again, Owen. Yeah, it’s sometimes hard to click on a block that consists of other blocks. What I do is click on the block above and then, using the keyboard arrows, go down like this:

I took a snapshot but I don’t know how to add to this post…

I hope the video above helped, but if you still need help and want to share a screenshot, you can use an online tool such as https://snipboard.io/ and paste the link into your reply.

I don’t mind setting temporary login and of course will follow-up with the 20$/paypal offer if fixed.

No need for that, WordPress.com staff can access your account if needed.
Also, you can save the $20 to help a local animal shelter or other cause close to your heart :)

    @justjennifer
, thanks for chiming in! From what I can see, you’re displaying recent posts on your homepage rather than a static page, like Owen. That’s why in your case, the Writing Settings work.

Hello! Thank you very much for the video, I figured out my mistake—I was getting this toolbar— https://snipboard.io/rYmNZg.jpg

…because I tried ‘edit site,’ instead of going into pages and editing the ‘Home’ page.

Thank you again for resolving this for me, I really appreciate it.

    Best regards,
    Owen

Owen, just adding that you might find using the “List View” in the Page/Post or Site Editor helps you in selecting a block or group of blocks. More on that here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/use-list-view/ Cheers!
