Normal Site

I think I jumped the gun a bit in using wordpress.com. I purchased a URL (roadwitness.org) and want to develop it as a website. The pre-designed themes aren’t what I had in mind, is there a way to transfer that roadwitness.org url to a different host so that I can create a custom site or can I use wordpress.org to design a custom site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. “Custom site” is a very vague term. Any site, even a WordPress.com one, can be “custom” from the moment you personalize it.

In order for us to better assist you, could you kindly provide us with more details as to the kind of website you have in mind?

Also, do you want to use WordPress.org on your new host instead?

By custom site, I mean that I would like to basically have a blank sheet to work from (no theme) and then just add stuff that I want, where I want it. The re-loaded themes offered are all blog-centric and what I need to build is an actual website.

For example, these themes don’t seem to all me to turn off the comments section or the search bar, or the Home button in the Menu.

I really like and familiar with WordPress so I want to build my site in this environment, so I am hoping I can still do that.

Comments can be turned off for both Pages and Posts (I think sometimes there is a residual wording on the comments being off – that can be hidden with the CSS upgrade), most Themes let you pitch the Search Widget (some Themes have the Search box built into the header section) – the “Homy” button can be deleted or changed by using a Custom Menu. Also some Themes offer single column with no sidebar.
