Not able get my domain

I was trying create a new blog for eg as xyz.wordpress.com and it given an error saying that its not available, to check what is about xyz, I just typed xyz.wordpress.com in a new browser window, to my surprise , i got a message saying xyz.wordpress.com does’t exist.
If so, then why I am not able to get that domain?
please help me.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sites already deleted by their authors two or more years ago may become available again, if they present no username or other technical conflicts. Do you see a deleted site with an address you would like to have? You can try registering a new site with that address here. If it is available, it will be yours.

No, this does’t solve the issue. The above link just redirects me to the default site name looking page.
while I am checking the website which I wish to have a blog, it clearly tells that the author has been deletd that page.
Any posiibility to get me that name?
