Not able to access subdomain

    Hi there,

I have recently updated my organization’s blog to a developed website that is not hosted by wordpress. This blog had its own domain (www.(title).com). I had a subdomain website to this blog before (www.(title).com/(subdomain_title). Now that I point from my domain to the new website, I am no longer able to access the subdomain. More concerning is the fact that I can’t access any of the files that I had saved on the subdomain. I still have my log-in information for both the site and subdomain, but it is not allowing me to log in to wordpress.

Any insight would be appreciated here – please let me know if I can provide more information!

    Hi,

This happens with great frequency with self-hosted WordPress.org sites (which are similar but differ in several important ways from WordPress.com. Some information on the differences between the two are here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/), and it sounds like this might be what happened here as I cannot find any WordPress.com sites associated with your username.

There are a lot of private tutorials which will walk you through how to regain access to your WordPress.org site if you google the problem, but here is the official WordPress.org Codex page on Changing your site URL:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

If this is a WordPress.com site which you’re having problems with, please let me know (and if you could, please give me your site’s URL starting with http://)! I’d be more than happy to help.

    Hey there,

Thank you both for your replies. I would be happy to provide the username of the account I no longer have access to, as well as the URL of the website that I can’t access anymore – but is there a private messaging option somewhere, or an email address I can contact? I would prefer not to post them here, although I can if need be. It appears that it was a .org account.

To clarify: we did not change the URL of the website. Rather, we created a new website and redirected our domain to the new website instead of the old website. I can’t even access the IP address of the wordpress.org site to point back to it.

If it is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, there isn’t anything which I can do to assist I’m afraid. We can only provide help for sites which are hosted on WordPress.com. I sincerely apologize.
