Not able to add comment

Two readers of my blog have complained that they can’t add a comment. One can occasionally add a comment, but other comments don’t work. Is there something going on?

And it just happened to me: I added a comment, click “submit comment,” and went on. Came back later: no comment. And when I look at “Manage Comments”, it’s not there.
The only thing comment-related I’ve done is to remove the restriction that an email address is required for a comment. Could that have screwed things up?

Yep, that one worked. It seems to be intermittent. My daughter got caught in trying a “test” comment, which worked, then left a real comment, which didn’t, then two test comments which did work, then another real comment, which didn’t, and then she gave up and emailed me. :) I’m not sure what’s going on, but I definitely left a comment that didn’t display or take.

The word “jinxed” comes to mind, however, I’m not superstitious. I can’t help but notice all the stuff you have reported … sheesh … it’s seems so weird to me that none of my blogs have any of these problems and that you have one blog that has them all. What rotten luck. :(

No, I didn’t think of that, but Mark at WordPress support did, and he found them. They were just being filtered as spam. Now that I know to look there, I’ll be able to handle future occurrences, if any should come to pass.

I have gotten complaints that people cannot comment either. I tried it myself and could not. My blog is relatively new but there is nothing I have done recently that would have turned off commenting abilities. They just stopped working, unless a person uses I.E. I have a Mac so I use Firefox. Is there any way to get my comments working using Firefox again? It seems to be browser related, but it might not be, they just stopped working.

OOPS! You seem to be in the wrong place. WordPress.com is a MU (multi-user) blogging platform. We run on a different code base than the version you can download from http://wordpress.org and you will get different answers to your questions here. I had a few users tell me they couldn’t leave comments on my blog. I tried myself, and sure enough, on hitting the submit button, firefox asks me if I want to download “wp-comments-posts.php”. When I first launched the blog, the commenting worked. Recently I added Akismet and Bad Behavior, but I disabled both and still have the same problem. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

You’re in the wrong place. You need to be asking over at WordPress.org, I think, as the software is different for our WordPress.com-hosted blogs.
