not able to add TXT record
-
I am not able to add a second TXT record in the space provided under the “Domains” sub-category. I am able to add one TXT record and it got validated and accepted. However while adding the second TXT record, I get a message saying that TXT records have to be 192 characters or shorter.
I contacted the company where my domain is registered (in India) and they said the following (copy-pasting from their email below). Please help me correctly configure the DNS records. Here is what they said:
The second TXT record is a DKIM record.
(DKIM) is a method for associating a domain name to an email message, thereby allowing a person, role, or organization to claim some responsibility for the message that acts as a digital signature.
It is an important record required for the Email service to work.
You can either contact WordPress to check how to add this record.
Or
You can change the name servers back to Bigrock’s and add A records to point your domain name to the wordpress hosting package.

hi macmanx,
Here is the second TXT record, which is a DKIM record, which I am unable to include (copy-pasted from BigRock’s support email):Host Name: 20110716._domainkey.gurusoul.org
Value: “v=DKIM1; g=*; k=rsa;p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQDKQMg52BqiPog8KYSqT+MOyhgLIDJIpnb2u49P hLVTuMV+vq6f2kqsexepi1lfoIRdCcAX8mbEw/uVc+8l5gkZtNUVKMHuZlMsEZHswLg20W3xYjAE LSDF0RKCURrMh7etw8Bbw24U6K5xK45CWf/hel7gA6csHbrGAkvjnudeHQIDAQAB”
Please note: Copy the complete value given, including the inverted commas (double quotes) as well.
Thanks for your help!

Yes, the record too long, which is not standard, so the DNS refuses to validate.
Are you sure they sent you the correct record?
-
Yes, they have sent me the correct record. They say that this is a DKIM record.
I was wondering if there was any way to ‘break’ this long record into two or more smaller records, each of which is less than 192 characters. For example TXT (“one string” “combined with another string”) or some such syntax for breaking the TXT record into smaller units.
Here is the relevant portion of their email to me (copy-pasted below):Hello,
The MX records and CNAME records added by you correct. However, you need to add two TXT records as well.
Following is the TXT record that you need to add:
First TXT record:
Host Name: gurusoul.org
Value: “v=spf1 exists:%{i}._spf.mailhostbox.com redirect=_spf.mailhostbox.com”
For Second TXT record:
Host Name: 20110716._domainkey.gurusoul.org
Value: “v=DKIM1; g=*; k=rsa;p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQDKQMg52BqiPog8KYSqT+MOyhgLIDJIpnb2u49P hLVTuMV+vq6f2kqsexepi1lfoIRdCcAX8mbEw/uVc+8l5gkZtNUVKMHuZlMsEZHswLg20W3xYjAE LSDF0RKCURrMh7etw8Bbw24U6K5xK45CWf/hel7gA6csHbrGAkvjnudeHQIDAQAB”
Please note: Copy the complete value given, including the inverted commas (double quotes) as well.
The records added usually takes around 4- 6 hours to reflect. After this your Email Services will start working fine.
Hope this helps!

The first record should save correctly, but the second is still going to be too long.
Can they split that one at all?
-
I’ve written to them regarding splitting the second record. Will get back to you with their response.

hi there,
I have some good news from BigRock – apparently it is possible to make the email work without the use of the second DKIM record. Here is their response (copy-pasted below). I’m sorry but I dont understand the technical details. Do you think you can help me out by fixing this problem on your end?Hello Jagdish,
Apologies for the delayed response.
I have contacted the concern team, it is not necessary to add DKIM record for the email service to work.
You can point the domain ‘gurusoul.org’ to wordpress name servers i.e ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com and ns3.wordpress.com, then add the MX, CName and TXT records (not the DKIM TXT record) for the email service and the blog on wordpress to start working.
Your have to add only 1 TXT record for verification as mentioned below.
gurusoul.org IN TXT “”v=spf1 exists:%{i}._spf.mailhostbox.com redirect=_spf.mailhostbox.com””In case you still face any issue, please feel free to revert.
Good day!

True, it should be working, but it’s not. After clearing my browser cache I was able to get to gurusoul.org and gurusoul.wordpress.com.
However, the email service which is at webmail.gurusoul.org is also getting directed to gurusoul.org. Maybe something needs to be tweaked in the Custom DNS records?
Please help! -
Oh, your CNAMEs were set incorrectly, sorry for not noticing earlier!
They were set like this:
CNAME webmail.gurusoul.org webmail.mailhostbox.com.When they should have been this:
CNAME webmail webmail.mailhostbox.com.I fixed all four CNAME records.
