Not able to add white space (hard return when pressing enter)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

I have my blog for over 3 years now and never have been able to add white space when I am writing a post. (if I press return in both text or visual mode it will not show up when I preview my post)
Before i would press the past from text button and then add a few Enter and spaces and then I would get a bit of white space but now that I have upgraded to the new wordpress all my text and pictures are sticking together. Any idea what to do?

    many thanks

    Hi!

There’s an easy workaround to your issue. All you have to do is, to switch to the Text mode and add the text ‘ ‘ between the lines where you need to add the white space.

      – stands for ‘Non Breaking Space’. When you press the return key, an instance of ‘ ‘ is added by default. You seem to be facing this error, because this keyword is missing between the lines. Also, the more instances of ‘&nbsp’, the more white space you get. For instance, if you add two instances, you get two lines of white space, and so on… Also, please note that you have to switch to the text mode and then add this keyword. Otherwise, it will not work.

I’ll show you a small example. Suppose you want to add three lines of white space between two lines of text. To go about this, you first have to switch to the ‘Text’ mode in your editor. The text you enter should be something like this:

    Line 1

    Line2

Hope this resolves your issue. :)

Er… it seems the comment editor screwed up with my forum post. Please don’t be confused by the empty quotes in my previous post – the editor removed the tag that I was referring to by default.

The tag I’m talking about is & nbsp;. You can read more about the tag here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_entities.asp

Please note that there is no space between ‘&’ and ‘nbsp;’ – I deliberately added it; lest editor will remove the tag again. ;)

http://www.styleisnecessity.com/ is NOT hosted by WordPress.COM and we do not provide support for it. Our support docs do not apply to your site and we cannot help you here at all. You are posting to the wrong support forum for your software.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG and need support for that site in the future and if you do not have a WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.

Thanks for the heads up @timethief, i was not even aware of that myself. Now that I read your article I wonder why the programmer ever set me up for that! Don’t understand anything about CSS!
Is there a way of moving to worpress.com or you are not aloud to advise on that?

    Thanks a lot

    Samantha
