Not able to change Category Parent

  I have a category called Fused Glass Pendants and it is listed under a Parent Category called Fused Glass Art. Why can’t I change the Parent Category to none?

  Fused Glass Pendants looks like it has been set as a parent category on your blog. Are you still experiencing the problem?

  For some reason, I have Fused Glass Pendants as a Parent Category and as a sub category under Fused Glass Art. I’d like to combine the two if that is possible. Or, just remove it from under the Parent Category.

  Right, the categories are treated as two separate categories (one is a parent, the other is a child). You can move all of the posts from the child category to the parent one by following these steps:

  1) Go to Posts -> Edit and choose the child category from the “View all Categories” drop-down menu.

  2) Use the Bulk Edit feature to modify a group of posts in one step – http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/#bulk-edit

  @glassart: You’re not displaying your categories in your sidebar, so I don’t see why you bother with which is the parent of which. Anyway, please activate the Categories widget so we can see what’s going on (make sure you select “Show hierarchy” and click Save).

  I tried using the Bulk Actions to move the child categories, but I lost all of them. I guess I just deleted the child categories from the posts. Now those posts don’t have the category “Fused Glass Pendants.”

  Does it really matter at this point? The posts are pretty old.

  Which posts would those be? http://glassart.wordpress.com/category/fused-glass-pendants/ gives 7 pages of posts; so does http://glassart.wordpress.com/category/fused-glass-art/fused-glass-pendants/ . As you’ve said in your second post here, fgp exists as both a parent and a child category. My guess is you have typed it twice, and that must be why you cannot edit it. Will you please activate the Categories widget?
