Not Able To Export?
-
Hey all,
For the last year I’ve been trying to go to Tools–>Export to back up my WordPress.com blog but I keep getting redirected to an error page. I know WordPress says that they keep all the blog information on their servers in case something happened, but I just like the reassurance of backing it up myself every month … I’m so frustrated that it’s not working! And I can’t find any way to contact WordPress unless I’m self-hosted (again … frustrating!).
Can anyone help? What am I doing wrong?

What does the error message state? Copy and paste it here word for word please.
How large is the export file?
Have you tried creating smaller export files for:

I posted above your post what the message says … It’s always worked in the past. I’ve had the blog for 5 years and just now in the past year it’s been doing this.

The same thing is happening to me. Each month I make a cumulative backup of my posts for the year, and now it’s not working. The same problem happened a month ago — see this support thread: Problem to backup — and a helpful staffer, shawnajroberts, provided an export file link. I need the same thing for my posts for 2014 starting in January and ending with December.

Hi there,
Your site is exceptionally large at well over a thousand posts and over 13,000 comments. I would recommend splitting your export in to segments to give our servers a little bit of a break. The best way is by date, perhaps do it by year if you’ve been blogging regularly.
This should allow you to export your site without the issues which you’ve been having.

amightywp, could you please respond to my comment, which is the one just before yours? I’m trying to export one year’s worth of posts, and I had trouble with the same thing a month ago too.

Your blog is even larger than @kristilyn’s, and so is going to be even more subject to this issue. If you break your export up to smaller pieces by date, then you shouldn’t have any problems; however exporting nearly 5,000 posts and 65,000 comments all in one go is going to be problematic!

Thanks for responding, amightywp. I understand what you’ve said, and I’m not trying to export it all in one gulp. I only want to backup the last year. That’s maybe 750 posts. It’s the way I’ve been doing it for quite some time now, but suddenly even a backup of that size is impossible. If I have to do it month by month, that’s what I’ll do, but the export facility shouldn’t be that limited.
